I am astonished.
Reading about the CITES schedule II, it is apparent that it would be illegal to send such commercial items across international borders. I guess it would break the law to send a Cocobolo knife to Canada. That is if the postal officials in either country were diligent.
genus-wide restriction on all Dalbergia species

What about Maple burl or Tiger Maple? Hard Maple or Rock Maple is a very hard domestic hardwood. Maple possesses a beautiful chatoyance as well. While it, like most domestic hardwoods, is soft when compared to exotic hardwoods such as Ebony, Purpleheart, Cocobolo, and Ironwood, Maple is still a nice choice.

Didn't Mike use Tiger Maple on the recent run of 85's? Those turned out really nice.

I would love to see maple burl it's a very beautiful wood that gets nice figuring. I have two JK handmade knives in it; a smaller and a larger fixed blade having a traditional folder would perfect my trio!

I have to admit it makes me chuckle thinking about how intense this thread would be if it were really neck and neck between the GEC and the Buck, and it was still open 36 hours past when it was supposed to close!

Good to see the civil discussion about handle options. I'm excited to see what is presented in the upcoming polls!

Skblades did say it could of been a couple of different fixed blade options as a choice. The 212 was one of them. W2 steel.and wide open handle choices. Here are some I've collected. Phenolic version not in the picture. Aluminum and leather handle is one Joe Houser made for one of the factory sales. He pulled it out of heat treat before final polishing.

Not being a devout follower of Buck Knives, I had never heard of the 212, but if we'd a been given the courtesy of the option, I probably would have voted for it as it is more appealing to my eye than the Vanguard or another Sheepfoot bladed folder.

With the recent discussion of maple, I figured I’d show a few pics. This is done in curly maple:

Another nice wood is Box Elder Burl. It can come natural, and dyed. It’s a stabilized wood so it makes for very durable scale material. Polishes back up very easily when it starts to dull from use. Never seems to lose its depth. I’ve seen all of these woods on folders and fixed blades by the way.

This is black and gold dyed Box Elder Burl:
