I like GECs best jigging but I don’t like our chances of getting it, there seems to be issues between order and finished product (speculation but based on some SFOs). Then there is the question of dye color, which could be limited to the very standard colors, or else inconsistent like some recent attempts to expand the color palette.

I really like jig bone, but those are some good reasons why wood is a more dependable choice imo.

I’d agree with this. When GEC hits it just right, it’s awesome. But for a build-to-customer-spec knife, wood is far more predictable.

Sounds like a lot of the standard wood options might be out, at least if we are to make sure our international members can get one.

Personally, I like Bocote.... not sure if it’s on the CITES list? It usually has some really nice grain and color variation.

Have to admit, I agree that it might be a gamble to get the really good jigging. Smooth white bone is always a classic.

Especially if we could get that slightly longer bolster that was talked about a few pages back, some sawcut wood would be very nice.

Lol, I was thinking the exact opposite - short bolster to make it look more Sheffieldy. But then again, can't imagine GEC making a special blank just for us.

Stig, I think the long bolster is unlikely as well, but just liked the combo with the sawcut in the Barlow tradition.

Sawcut bone is just so nice!

I would be in for yellow sawcut, that is a classic combo

But calico (as pictured) or antique green sawcut, would also be nice and in keeping with the pattern.

I believe we should select one of GEC’s colorful sawcut bone options. We could pick one that rarely shows up like the amber and copperhead in these photographs. The 86 set up we have selected looks like a blue collar knife to me, and deserves hardworking handles. Plus, no one will suffer the disappointment of being a lottery loser. They would all look great!

A rat tail bolster with an interesting shield would dress it up just enough! I still think we should have a satin finish on the blade. This could be the best Forum knife of them all!

And @H2O2HI would be able to avoid another crisis of conscience if we do not fell any trees for our forum knife.

The three in the top photo look awesome. I'd be super happy with one of those sawcut options.

Buck voter here. But I'd sure be in for a sawcut bone. Maybe with a match striker long pull?

Sawcut bone would probably make just about everybody fairly happy. I'm in the ebony wood group, but hard to pass up saw cut bone. In general, GEC consistently turns out pretty good sawcut bone. What is the beer scout pictured a couple posts up... copperhead sawcut I think? Can't go wrong with that!
