Just curious....why wouldn’t the linerlock have a lighter pull? Seems that with a linerock you wouldn’t need such a strong backspring
Ya, I was shocked too.
You've got some talent as an artist.![]()
Great post Barrett!Sorry to hear about the bevels. It happens sometimes. While on the subject, just curious about what you usually use when sharpening?! Freehand or sharp-maker seem to be the way for me lately. I’m really thinking about a KME or something similar in the near future. Am I to understand you can’t pinch yours open!
That sketch is fantastic my friend!

Just build a few saddles, your fingers will be strong in no time.I guess I should go do some of these.
Thanks for the sharpening info Barrett! I agree with you on their bevels. I guess it depends on who is doing the final sharpening on a given day. Thanks, Ron. The bevel thing is no big deal, just me nitpicking.Thankfully it rarely happens with GEC. It’s interesting, I’ve never thought their factory edges were all that great (although they seem to be improving lately), but I have always appreciated their factory sharpening because they tend not to overdo it. They don’t sharpen at too low an angle, which leaves a fairly narrow bevel that can easily be adjusted to my preference when I first sharpen the knife (which I always do before carrying a new one for the first time).
I sharpen freehand using two DMT Dia-Sharp (continuous surface) bench stones in Fine and Extra Fine. They're either 8” or 10”. I use the Fine for initial sharpening, then finish with the Extra Fine. Usually the EF is all that’s needed for touch ups.
I’ve tried both of my single blade #23’s and can’t pinch either of them open.I guess I should go do some of these.

Yep that's it ! "Wavy Rogers" jigging --- I have three #48s , an #86 Northfield , an Elderberry#92 , and a #93 Waynorth Lambsfoot is pretty close , but a little more extra detailed. My OKCA #23 is super superb ! The best jigging GEC has to offer !The OKCA is a jigged bone but not sure what style I would call it, love it honestly. My favorite 2 blade of the run. Here's a few pics including the button.

All good things come to those who wait. I just got the invoice for my reserved mesquite. Now the shipping wait begins. YES!
Way to go Barrett! On a positive (and less emasculating) note, I used my Woodland Micarta LL to slice some tomatoes for lunch today, and just a bit of patina made it pinchable.![]()
I also received a second Beaver Tail liner lock (more on that tomorrow
) with a slightly lighter pull that could be pinched open right out of the tube.
