2020 GEC #23 Trapper Thread

If I had known the jigging on the cherry wood was going to look like that, I would have reserved one of those, instead of the woodland micarta...the pictures of other knives with jigged cherry wood did not appeal to me at all. This one is going to look very nice, indeed...such is life....

edit: Of course, I'd still have to grit my teeth to get past that silly beaver shield..

lol, I hear you about the beaver shield.... funny thing is, the jigging looks like it's been gnawed on by a beaver :)

Leave it to Beaver :) I like the little guy too

Is this new jigging on all Cherry knives or just the one SFO. It looks pretty cool. I like the old jigging too.

Really wish the single blade LLs would have been designated to receive the drop/clip blade instead of the skinner. Too much like a spay.
May get one anyway. Plenty of steel to reconfigure there.

I think either way I will wait to get an assessment of the pull from the good folks here before buying one of these.
I had one from the 2007 run, and it was such a nail breaker it demanded an ez-open mod.
Even after making that mod, I had to move it along because that closing gator snap continued to make me nervous.
That one wasn't a LL though, so I figure these will necessarily be a little softer.

now you're just playing devil's advocate.... NOBODY could love that beaver shield! :D
Seriously, I like the animal shields they use... Jack, Beaver, etc.
I like them way better than that Old Man shield that everybody's crazy about.

nice of you to take up for GEC, though.... :)
Why wouldn't I?
I love GEC and have about a dozen of their knives. I show lots of them in the Totin' thread.
I just don't like the idea that if I buy one with a year of use on it, I have to pay 50% over retail. And I don't like "flipping".

I would have to say the keyhole shield is the worst. It really takes away from the beauty of any knife.

What?! Nice thing about GEC is they offer something for everyone. I pretty much just like shapes for shields and not items... don't like guitars, tools, any sort of food especially the hot dog shield which seems like it's just a never ending joke, bananas, or animals...beavers cows etc. lol, wow, I never knew I was so picky! I like the keyhole shape.

I’m hopeful that one of the bone options will be the NACB.

Yeah... I was just pushing your buttons a little... personally, I don't like the odd, difficult to figure out shields... the old man is one of them, along with the beaver.. and I don't really like the ram on the ramsfoot... guess I'm simple minded.

I like the simpler shapes, houndstooth, bomb, even the squished hotdog... I do love the banner type shields, like the Beer Scout, and now the pocket carver..

..... and, I'd take up for GEC any day. I'm a little in awe of them for the consistent quality products they produce, and at a very reasonable price. Looking at pics of some of the custom knives on the exchange, I don't see many of them that beat the GEC's.... and certainly not at the price they demand... 4 to 5 times the price of the GEC's? hmmmm.... nope.

Don't worry about the pre-order , find and buy the knife that you really want.

Well, the preorder is a commitment on my part, and I'll fulfill that... I imagine that there will be quite a few of the cherry woods out there. That is the chance you take with the pre order system. You get the chance to have a guaranteed knife, but many times there is not an accurate depiction of what the final knife will look like.
It doesn't bother me at all. Much the same as the 62 carvers. I didn't know about the banner type shield until I'd already reserved a couple of others. I took my chances, and ended up with both of the banner shielded ones anyway... (still waiting for the reserved F&F's....:))
First world problems.... life is good.

My GEC dealer (TOP SECRET) is pretty cool. He has called me on the phone a few times. I email him as soon as GEC releases the production schedule. My pre-orders are secured before other GEC dealer pre-orders are sent out. I have six #23 Trappers on pre-order just with my dealer. I canceled the white bone #62 Pocket Carver , but I bought the Cocobolo #62. I am saving my bones for the #23 Jumbo Trappers. After I see some scale colors , I might pre-order some two blade #23 Trappers. I have no GEC#23 knives. I use to be single blade crazy. After the #86 Oil Field Jack run , I am large jack knife crazy too. My dealer knows that I will buy as many knives as I can from him as possible. SFO and a second same knife is a different story. I am open to any GEC dealer. The dealers that bend over backwards for me to get the knife of my dreams, they get my business first.

Hey man , I just "Bing" searched "Pickle & Peanut". You have got to change you profile picture. Pickle & Peanut are both holding knife/swords. That is the perfect profile picture for you. Check it out !
