2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

I thought you were never going to post a picture of that beauty !!! That is some very nicely matched Stag . In a heart beat , I have a Vintage Colonial Barlow that I would trade you even up for . You would not need to kick in a little cash .

What are friends for Harry! It really is a very nice example! I’m proud I was able to get it! Stay safe my friend! :)

That sure is some nice looking stag, Ron. I don't think I've seen any bad stag on this run.

Boy, those little blades are thin. :)

My 62 Carvers arrived and they are put together very well. The white bone has a stronger pull on all blades than the cocos, but all are good.

My only complaint is that they all have substantial scuffing on the bolsters. One dealer told me this happens in the production process, not during shipping. This out of the tube scuffing is not acceptable to me. GEC needs to make changes to fix this issue.

Both my white bone carvers were pretty pristine. But the cocobolo I picked up has nasty scuff marks on the bolsters. All 4 pieces.

None of my 3 carvers had scuffed bolsters, thank goodness. None of my 62s do, in fact.

I would be unhappy with scuffs like that for sure.

And there is some nice stag up at DLT right now so I would hustle if you like stag!

Got numbers 1746 and 1725 on the way. I was just going to grab one, but I saw the other and had to have both. Can't wait to see what they look like in person. Been waiting on this release for like 2 weeks...

Those are awesome, congratulations!

I snagged 1730. I was stoked to have so much time to check them out.

A leather strop with green compound will remove that scuffing in seconds it's so minor and might be your dealer unwrapping them carelessly ;) A strop will remove even unpleasant dings on genuinely used knives and turn matte to shine without much effort should you prefer.

I'll trade you a buffing cloth for that top one. :p

I agree it's not ideal, but it seems like nickel bolsters (and shields) scuff just from being breathed on. It's a highly polished, but soft metal, and the factory probably has grit on every surface. Unless they start treating the knives like jewelry and do the final buffing in a clean room, I guess it's just the way things are.
Thanks, I’m very pleased with it! :) That looks like a razor blade with a nail nick!
That's what I was going for. ;)

..... might be your dealer unwrapping them carelessly ;) ....

Damn dealers.... Some people look at NS bolsters / shields harder than others - I have seen one that didn't have at least a swirl on it in 13 years of dealing them. Two seconds on a soft buffer with white compound and they are like a mirror again (until you touch them).

While you're here, Mike.... any insider news as to the dropping of the F&F carvers? signed.... "anxious in Texas"..... :D

I agree r8shell r8shell ...... I think for a $100.00, GEC puts out a knife worthy of the price..... For more $$$ more time can be added to the process incl packaging to preclude any cosmetic issues...... But GEC needn't change anything on my account..... I'm very happy with what they provide......

Maybe GEC could produce a "Diamond" grade offering at +25% regular price with premium polishing, centering, packaging, etc....... ??

:D Never had a problem with any of my GEC dealers-including you-groping the bolsters too much;) NS is soft and strop gets it back in fine shine, but all steel is better:cool:

Well my pocket carver is "officially " my knife now. :D But that's not why I'm posting.

I have literally been using my pocket carver everyday for the last two weeks and there is not one scuff on the bolsters. I do not baby my knives at all, I wonder if the constant rubbing of the bolsters in my hands with use is polishing them.
