2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

Shucks, if I'd just learn to listen to me, I'd be okay. Almost every time I've cut myself has been within seconds of telling myself "You idiot, you're gonna cut yourself if you keep that up."
That’s so strange- I always have the same experience.

A blast to the ever so distant Easy Pockets past :)
Love this pattern and I think it’s time to pull these beauties out of the safe and get them in my rotation “I think” :D

I think it’s just in the spirit of fun, personally not with the intention of bullying and I wouldn’t dare question your manhood or womanhood, or however one might identify. There’s three ways to mitigate injuries, carve with a glove, carve knowing the wood might break, or don’t carve in the first place.

gloves are fine. Very fashionable in the right setting. They help prevent transmission of CoVid19, they keep your finger prints off the murder weapon, and they keep oil from your skin off your meerschaum pipes.

I think we know it's just poking fun... no harm, no foul.... :D

For the rest of the sissies  thinking of buying a glove.... try them on before you buy. I normally wear "large" gloves... occasionally "xlarge" if the gloves were made overseas somewhere....

I went to buy a glove today, and the one that fit me very nicely was the "small" one. I'm really glad I didn't order one online. When I put the large one on, the fingers were literally an inch longer than my fingers. The medium was better, but still a loose fit. I had to "get small".

I can’t believe you guys are using a sissy glove!

You cannot call yourself a true whittler until you have pushed a blade almost all the way through your hand.

I blame you for this post. I wear a glove for whittling. Do i look sissy when wearing a glove? i asked to my wife. Here's the answer: "What looks sissy is to whittle useless objects, what is manly is to saw and split heat wood."

I shouldn't have asked.

Dan.

sounds like your wife and my wife might get along. Yesterday mine looked at my new Red/Black linen micarta 62 and said, “what... is this your new knife?”.
...
”is this my new knife?! Are you blind? I’ve never owned a shadow pattern before! It’s like you don’t even pay attention to my hobbies!”
“Is it your birthday?”
“Obviously not.”
“Then I don’t care.”
(Events May be a slightly over exaggerated synthesis of many similar conversations)

My wife not noticing a new knife would never ever be the start of an argument, in fact it’s much preferred.

Breaking in the new F&F.

good work- that particular style of ball-in-cage is already weak due to the grain runout in the diagonal leg sections. What do you figure the diameter of the remaining legs are? 1/4”? That’s some careful cutting.

Well, here is the most recent pic of my family of 62's... all of them 2020 versions, except for the tomato acrylic toward the bottom. I will be adding 3 more F&F pocket carvers when they become available. This is fun....

Every single one of those looks like an exceptional version of the pattern! Congratulations that is one awesome collection!

Amazing collection. What is your favorite?

You had to ask that......
The tomato acrylic is a grail knife for me, so it is my favorite. Of the 2020 versions, the one I reach for most often just to carry is the unicorn ivory that I wet sanded to a matte finish. It looks to me like real ivory, and feels great in hand. In reality, there is no loser in that group, I could happily carry any one of them. GEC outdid themselves with the easy pocket congress knife, in my opinion.

Thanks! I agree... I was very fortunate with the ones that were sent to me. The woods are grainy, and the camels are excellent, in my opinion. I'm more than pleased with them.

Excellent, excellent group shot!!
Thank you... my photography skills are rudimentary, at best. I'm constantly amazed at the quality of pics that others on here post. Like professional, studio shots. Mine are more "point and shoot"...

One can only assume you’ve robbed a bank. That’s over $1,300 worth in knives, surely. It’s also the most beautiful knife picture I’ve seen in a good while. I can’t help but admire your devotion to the pattern. You’re a regular Ash Ketchum. I’ve loved many pocket knives in my time, but never as much as you.

everyone join me in the chant of ages...

It’s like watching someone on YouTube be a master at something you don’t even care about- at some point we all just crave the spectacle of excellence.

In my own opinion a reliable knife ready for duty is the best knife. Right now they are pristine and gorgeous, but they don’t have that “day in the life of @TheFactor” wear-n-tear personalization yet. Go for it!

I don’t know about anyone else, but being a kid and watching grandpa pull out his old stockman from his pocket to cut a zip tie was almost a religious experience. There’s nothing like a knife that’s served it’s master faithfully for years.

edited for tortured English. Late night posting can cause that.

Yes, I tried to rob a bank, but they told me I couldn't come inside... I had to use the drive-up window... :(

I have gone somewhat overboard with this pattern, as my wife would certainly tell me... probably rather vehemently ... but, I'm pretty sure there will be very few knife purchases the rest of this year. "Get it over with early on".....:D

showing my age.... I had to look up Ash Ketchum...
