2020 OKCA Show

I don't know about the show going on!!?? But here in Canada, my doctors advised me not to go, and now the Provincial Government made an announcement yesterday that Canadians should avoid all non-essential trips to the USA, or anywhere!! And if you go, you should self-quarantine at home for 14 days when you return!! I am completely bummed out!!:(
GEC has cancelled its tables at the Oregon Show also!! Bill won't send any of his employees on a trip at this time!!
This is a terrible situation!!
Well this all stinks. Sorry to hear that Charlie but better to be on the safe side. Until this whole thing is better controlled, we should just expect things like this for a while. If they cancel my slipjoint school in August then I'm really gonna be upset :)

I have just sent the latest reports from here, to Duncan via email!! He'll probably let me know. It's 7:15 AM there (tomorrow!!)

Living here in Eugene, I have to say that I feel very dubious that the show will go on. I have my fingers crossed. I really want to go to the show. It is something that I look forward to doing with my daughter every year. Plus I love seeing everyone.

But we need to be looking out for each other, and that may mean not getting to look (buy) at pretty knives.

I will be very sorry to miss you this year Charlie, but I have to agree with your doctor. It's better you miss this year and show up for many more.

:(

:(

My friends- I was planing to fly to Pauls, - then Paul and I to shoot over to Daves, then big Road trip to Oregon - its not looking good at all- and will get worse before it gets better- being stranded in another Country is another risk as well- I just heard this minute that NZ Prime Minister has declared a 14 day self imposed stay home period upon returning home - so thats two weeks without pay on top of the period of being away - personal trips do not get paid for 14 home stay periods if the travel is personal. How they plan to police this would be impossible.

I have just canceled my trip- talked to Paul, and will ring Dave very soon but have corresponded with them, also included was our very good friend Neal as well :( - and all our friends that we were to meet - GUTTED is the word- the positive I pull from this is that I have 100% committed to next years trip and I have another 12 months to save money for some neat old knives!

Dave wont be happy either as he had apparently bought very expensive furniture and the creme de la creme of comfort beds for my room, and also had swept out a corner of the Wood Shed for Paul! :D

Dave was also relying on Paul for doing some house work whilst Dave and I hunted Elk and went fishing in the beautiful Country - so another disappointment lol ( I am SO going to get my Beans when I see Paul for this  )

I will loose some money in the refunding of the tickets - apparently I will get some back from the Airline, and some back of the rest from my Insurance- so it could be worse.

I miss my friends over there and was so excited to see all of them again- but...the next 12 months will go fast.

Charlie my friend- Thank you SO MUCH for the updates my friend, I will see you in 12 months- hopefully Joanne as well!:)

Duncan, I likewise have cancelled my plans to be at the show this year in my case on advice of my Doctor. I was really looking forward to meeting you and Paul! Also, will sorely miss seeing our mutual friends—the regulars that are faithful attenders each year. This will be the second year in a row that I have missed going. Last year it was my granddaughter getting married, this year the Coronavirus what could cause me to miss next year?— only heaven knows. I think the show is probably going to proceed at least their website seems to optimistically proclaim the show must go on. I think a lot of older members and vendors are probably wrestling with the uncertainty of the whole situation and will probably error on the side of caution or prudence and bow out this time. Anyway, with dreams of vintage folder gold dancing in my night time dreams I will count down the days to next years 2021 OKCA show and hopefully make you and Paul’s acquaintance then. I am diminished :( but hopeful for next year. Duncan, all the best to you and to all my friends on BF I will miss your grinning faces this year! I hope you and your loved ones all remain healthy and safe in these perilous times :)

Sometimes I just feel like fate doesn't want me to do this show. Missed the last two years due to unavoidable work conflicts, cleared everything off the schedule, bought a table for this year, and now this.

I'm going to hold off on cancelling just in case, but coming out of WA doesn't look promising. Crazy thing is I HAVE to burn 240 hours of vacation this year. I was counting on this and Blade West...

Due to my age (82) and medical history (I'm recovering from a major operation to remove a cancer in my pancreas.) I think I will not go this year.I will put a check in the mail Monday to send my annual knife to me at home. I don't think either Charlie or me should go this year. It is not an ordinary year.

Hugh

I am so sorry to hear about everyone's big sadness in this matter. Me too. I had already been forced to cancel my plans (for the 5th year) because of health issues. Frankly I am a little worried as I am in the vulnerable demographic. Here is to superlative luck to everyone's health and for all things cutlery.

Well...a year goes by pretty fast these days. Maybe we can do something special to make up for it next time :)
I feel horrible for Duncan and everyone who made plans that are not easily refunded.
Stay safe everyone and take precautions. I want to see everyone there next year :)

Wonderful messages of our typical Traditional friends here - I am sorry for all those who have missed out - this was going to be another massive trip over to the other side of the World for Knives and extremely good people - each I regret deeply in missing out - but especially the people and friends.

Take care everyone as we will see each other next year - that is unless we all turn into Zombies and well - Hey! :(

Dennis is insisting there is no way the show is going to be canceled. I have a feeling there will be some big holes in those tables now if he doesn't have a long list of people wanting to fill in spaces. And then there is Kate Brown who may extend that 250 person gathering ban in Oregon come April? Doesn't sound like I will be there this year for a number of reasons. First time ever in the history of the show for me.

I cancelled my hotel reservations a few days ago. If things calm down a bit, and the show is still on, and it doesn't look like I will have to much trouble leaving Canada, I may still go. I don't think I would have too much trouble finding a hotel room. However, it would not be the same without Charlie and Lloyd there. Dave, Barry and herder might still be there?
The situation does stink! It will be a big financial hit for the Oregon club if the show does not go on.

Sorry to hear about this guys, I know how tough it is when something you look forward to with great anticipation is cancelled. It's probably best right now not to be on an airplane or be in large crowds. Hopefully this will pass soon and the show will be back even stronger next year.

I wonder if the ban will be lifted?? Or expanded?? Hard to tell; but ominous at this point!!o_O I, too, haven't missed for a show for a long time!!:(

The way things are headed right now we will be lucky to have the GEC Rendezvous in August.

,,,Mike in Canada
At least there's a little time for things to get better!! - I hope!!:)

I have high hopes for next year!!

The CDC recommends no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. All schools in WA and OR are closed, possibly for the year. All bars and restaurants are closed in this area and beginning to close in other areas of the country. Panic is emptying store shelves of everything from TP and sanitizer to canned rations. We are in the beginning stages of our health system being overwhelmed and still can't get accurate information on the specifics of this virus.

Charlie, Duncan and many other friends aren't making the trip; I am nearly 70 with underlying health issues (aren't we all at this age?) and am not inclined to risk the exposure that travel, eating take-out, motels, public restrooms and the show itself present, and so likely will cancel as well. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that Dennis has been so adamant that the show will go on, as the governor may extend the OR ban on public gatherings. This whole situation sucks. :(

If willpower alone would do it, the show would go on!!:D
But the hand of another, higher power is at work!!:(
