2021 GEC 83 Tascosa Lock Back

Mine is arriving late… but at least my dark brewed is shipped! It would be nice if some got them in hand before the forum knife poll closes.

Newest addition to my Bocote a braided kangaroo lanyard.😃 Jigged bones are dropping. Was surprised that they actually lasted an hour on one site.

That is really shocking. Can the gec craze be dying down? Lets hope so.

Looks like the jigged bone retained the gap. I was hoping they may had remedied that along the way. Alls well. Im still excited to get it in hand

Pretty much the way I feel. Hoping it grows on me. 🤞
Maybe I had my expectations too high but I expected tighter tolerances from GEC. I would much prefer the pattern as a slip joint anyways so having blade play with the lock doesn’t help. I have a stag on reserve and am really hoping that one turns out well.

I think blade play on GEC's lockbacks is pretty typical. That said, I would have hoped that they had fixed that in their processes by now - doesn't appear so. My Bocote does not have any play but the Dark Brewed could be different.

Mine has minimal blade play, unless you are wiggling the blade there is no way you would know it, in normal use you’d never know. I’m struggling with the gap under the lock release. The lock functions fine, I know it’s a purely cosmetic, but I can’t NOT see it. 😄 Think I’m going to put a cool little fob with a bead and see if that draws my attention away from “the gap.” 😊👍

I don't think I would have noticed that gap had it not been mentioned here. Interestingly, I have very few traditional lockbacks in my collection but the ones that I do have are very old and do not feature such a gap. The cutout is a lot shallower though.

I have only a few also, Case mini copperlocks and Tribal locks are my favorites, no gaps. I agree, the cutout doesn’t need to be anywhere near the size it is to allow for the lock bar to be depressed enough to close the blade.

Yes they do. I would love to hear a reason for the issues with GEC lock backs. I’d like to think there is a reason for the gap. They CLEARLY know how to make a great knife, so it’s hard to believe that it was a design flaw or an oversight. 🤔

I've read enough of the concerns in the past with regards to GEC's lockbacks to come to the conclusion that it simply is not a specialty of theirs. I think the last time they did a lockback was the last run of 99s and the same concerns were brought then as well. I don't think there is an explanation other than they don't do a lot of them and it isn't something they do particularly well - compared to other firms that make them.

Regarding blade lock. I have one of the 83 bocote already. Tight as a drum. Have the blood orange 83 from 2015. Also tight.

Nice pattern and I really like the Bocote. Maybe I can still luck into one of the bone ones.
