It's not unusual on a Barlow to see that. The cocobolo looks amazing but how come they profiled the scales like this - is that normal for wood?

Common on Barlows in generalThe cocobolo looks amazing but how come they profiled the scales like this - is that normal for wood?

They go back and forth. The ironwood from '18 had chamfer edges like this while the '19 ebony had round edges like the olive wood. The cocobolo looks amazing but how come they profiled the scales like this - is that normal for wood?

I agree, and after the bolster, the flat sides and chamfered edges say Barlow to me. Mimics the sawcut bone.I like it when they shape the scales like that on a Barlow - it usually leaves more "meat" and feels more substantial in hand, which is what I prefer on a work knife.
Yep I like it too. A lot of character in that wood for sure!I like it when they shape the scales like that on a Barlow - it usually leaves more "meat" and feels more substantial in hand, which is what I prefer on a work knife.
