Welcome to the Porch my friend . Congrats on getting on the Reserve for another one . Those Red Saw Cuts are some very fine knives .First time poster and long time lurker: I have been so excited about this most recent run of 77s that I finally felt like it was time to break the silence! My 2019 red saw cut 77 has easily been one of, if not, THE favorite pocket knife in my collection. Getting on the reserve for this run leaves me with a question I was hoping one of you kind folk could answer.
Were the 2019 production Yankee Barlows made with nickel silver liners/pins/bolsters? I seemed to have missed the info on that. The brief discussion on liner/bolster materials in this thread had brought it to mind.
Cocobolo #77!! ohhhhhhh it's gonna be a looker for sure!Cocobolo added as a non SFO cover option!
That's the bone, not the cocobolo. Cocobolo isn't white on the inside.Cocobolo, that makes sense why no saw cut marks on some of those production pics. This is going to a great run![]()

The saw cuts aren't done yet on the production pictures... you can see it's a dark brown with yellowish inside, it's gonna look very similar to the #15 below.Cocobolo, that makes sense why no saw cut marks on some of those production pics. This is going to a great run![]()
I believe the bone is sawed before dyeing. Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong. The yellow will show through when shaped to the bolster. The saw cuts aren't done yet on the production pictures... you can see it's a dark brown with yellowish inside, it's gonna look very similar to the #15 below.

That’s what I heard from one of the dealers tooI believe the bone is sawed before dyeing. Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong. The yellow will show through when shaped to the bolster.
Was looking at my Osage Sawcut and i tought the sawcuts were made after dying to give the sawcuts more "reliefs" and be more colorful. I can be wrong for sure! hahahaI believe the bone is sawed before dyeing. Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong. The yellow will show through when shaped to the bolster.
Thank you for the reply. It started to trouble me that I hadn't given it much thought until now!Welcome Travis,
Mike or someone with more knowledge can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe 2019 run was steel liners/pins/bolsters.
The first run of 77 Yankee Barlow in 2014 were brass liners/pins and nickel sliver bolsters. I believe that was the last time brass liners/pins were used until now.
Thank you, I couldn't agree more! I have a hard time keeping it out of my pocket when I'm not at work!Welcome to the Porch my friend . Congrats on getting on the Reserve for another one . Those Red Saw Cuts are some very fine knives .

The production pictures looks better than the cover shot! hahaha
