Man, I’m jealous, sounds like an awesome day… great pick ups right from the source.Yep Joan was behind the displays, and I got the antique yellow bone. Pics in the 77 barlow thread.![]()
Your on a roll sf fanatic, that’s some beautiful bone, definitely has an ivory look.My first #77 two days ago and now my first #36 today and she’s a beauty! A few years ago I traded my #46 Whaler because I got tired of busting thumb nails. Thankfully, this blade is pinchable.

Very nice. Wow, it appears someone is really into 15's.I was one the fence about these. I would’ve been 110% in for a single spear, but wasn’t sure how I felt about the sheepsfoot on this pattern, and I still don’t love the elephant shield.
But it’s always nice to get ahold of a GEC pattern I haven’t had before, and I was in the right place at the right time, so… why not?

The knife is very well made, even by GEC standards, and I like the size and proportions. It’s a bit like an oversized #25. Now I wish even more that I had a spearpoint #36. Maybe in another 10 years…

Bubble wrap for me as well. I’ve seen others with it tooHa, thanks. I do have a couple #15’s, but probably far less than some folks here. I blame GEC for making so many different ones.
I forgot to ask in my other post, did everyone else’s #36 come wrapped in bubble wrap rather than the usual wax paper?
Yes, they are all bubble wrapped. I asked Joan Mae about it and she said they did that because they are so heavy and the last ones they did came out of the papers and actually the bolsters got scratched up in the tubes. Lesson learned I guess.Ha, thanks. I do have a couple #15’s, but probably far less than some folks here. I blame GEC for making so many different ones.

My first initial thoughts are, “wow, this is huge!”. Folks, this is one well made knife. Flush in every position. I am impressed. I’ll admit, initially I wasn’t too fond of these and told myself I’m most likely going to pass on them but once I saw them in hand I realized it would be a cool oddball GEC to have in my collection. I wanted a smooth white bone and might still try for one to see which I like better but I am really happy with this knife!
The only imperfection on this knife is this little hole next to the shield. I don’t really know what to think of it. Is it possible the hole can get bigger and worse? Any possible ways I can plug it?

The crayon idea sounds simple enough, might give that a go. Thank you for sharingGo to a good paint store and get a black wood filler..... Same stuff finish carpenters use to fill holes after hanging trim.... Or, melt a black crayon and dribble some in the hole.... Then you heat up a butter knife and smooth it out.......

Yep, bubble wrap.
What I found amusing is that I was thinking the pull on these maybe extra stout, which imo it is perfect, but wow the cap on my tube is no joke. Thought maybe I'd need a tool to assist getting it open!
