2022 GEC #36 ElephantToenail/Elephant Toe/Sunfish Thread

What I found amusing is that I was thinking the pull on these maybe extra stout, which imo it is perfect, but wow the cap on my tube is no joke. Thought maybe I'd need a tool to assist getting it open!

Ahh yep, looks like this. Completely forgot I had a tube popper hiding in my knife box! Thanks for the reminder, I'm gonna keep this handy. :thumbsup:View attachment 1758006
I guess I must be hardcore. I usually just use my thumb to open the tube caps, including these. I can tell you the open slot between between the bolsters on most pocket knives will pop them too.:)

Ha, thanks. I do have a couple #15’s, but probably far less than some folks here. I blame GEC for making so many different ones. 😉

I forgot to ask in my other post, did everyone else’s #36 come wrapped in bubble wrap rather than the usual wax paper?
Yep… showed up with bubble wrap, for the first time. Glad to see GEC is taking a look at how their product ends up in the consumers hands after flopping around while in transit from dealer to consumer. I would rather see it with anti-corrosssion tissue and bubble wrap, but that pin stuck to the adhesive or bubble wrap is way cool. These guys and Gail’s love what they do 😊

Can't really tell until I get it in hand, but I have a strong feeling the cocobolo NF will be my favorite of this run. It looks like a real classy honker.:)

Despite it's size, it carries very well in my pocket. It is a large knife, but it is very flat so it is very comfortable to carry. For usability, so far it has only tackled a couple boxes and the foil from a wine bottle. I personally like a large sheepsfoot knife for most EDC tasks because of the easy to use point and the wide blade, so I was drawn to this particular pattern. In the past, I have carried a fixed blade wharncliffe or sheepsfoot paired with a folding clip point or other more standard style blade. Some places it is hard to carry a fixed blade, and I think this knife will fill that roll for me. It is very comfortable to hold with the wide and flat handle, and has a large blade that should handle most tasks well.

Picked up the white bone today. Jazzed…

I will say the white bone shield placement looks a little more rough, but the visual gap is filled/smooth.

I suspect filling around the Ebony shield was easier to hide any gaps that may have been there.

It may just be a little excess glue or epoxy. Mine doesn't have that. You may be able to dab it with acetone or fingernail polish remover and scrape it off with your fingernail. It's not really hurting anything, but may come off easy enough.

It’s smooth, so I suspect it’s just filler. Not concerned about it hurting anything, but it does look rougher than the shield on my Ebony.

Enjoy! Let us know how it rides in your pocket once you get used to it as well as usability. Despite it's size, it carries very well in my pocket. I suppose it's like a smoker who carries a Bic lighter and then switches to a steel Zippo. It's just getting used to the weight. I always thought the 93 Ramsfoot was stout. This thing dwarf's it.

After about 2 weeks of continuous pocket carry, the bolsters and shield on the 36 are showing some scratches and marks from riding in my pocket. My overall impressions are that this is a functional utility knife in a traditional folder style. When closed, it is very flat and rides well in a Jean or carhaart pants pocket. When open, the handle is very comfortable due to its size, and handles like a fixed blade knife. Blade shape is great for opening boxes, and did a fantastic job stripping some 6/4 SOOW wire too. Edge is still as new. Will continue to carry and test and report back later.
