2022 GEC #59 Shaffer Farm Whittler Thread

First time I might prefer acrylic to the bone. I've been waiting for another "variative" type acrylic. And yeah, seems like etchpocalypse has ended, hooray!

Still I don't quite get why whe see this before the Coon, for the Coon was first in line.

I can’t wait for this one! I prefer the acrylic, but will be happy with either one.

only the best come with longer mainblade over the tang of the secondary blade in closed position.
I was thinking of some of the custom Bose knives that have a shorter main blade.
I've seen both styles and both are nice, so the shorter main doesn't really bother me.

I’m curious and since you’ve forgotten more about whittling than I’ll ever know, is a Wharncliffe or a clip point main blade more conducive to whittling? 🤷
I learned with a wharncliffe, so for me the answer is a wharncliffe. However, there is not one "right way" to do it, so I'm sure there are plenty of folks better than me that don't use a wharny.

The earlier spy shot pictures we saw must have distorted the length and width. This 59 pattern is much thinner than what we saw (especially that first pic which made these look like 26’s).

Might have been a double agent.

Any advice for snagging one? I'm pretty new to GECs and I hear it can be difficult to get one. How do you even find out where/when they are available?

Your best bet would be to purchase one on the secondary market if you can afford it. Otherwise, if you have the time and patience hangout on the vendors that do public drops. I’d PM you with more specific information but since you’re not a paid member that’s not an option. Good luck!
