2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

Agreed the white / houndstooth combo is very handsome. I wonder what the etch will be for the yetis...

Those Yetis look great for you acrylic fans. I don’t go for acrylic.

White cattle bone or white camel bone would have been my preference.

if the etch has a yeti beast on the blade I will have a real dilemma.

I'm not a big acrylic fan but white acrylic is a rare sighting for GEC.:D They sure do look nice too.

looks like we're being kept waiting till the bitter end to discover what colour the jigged bone will be. I just hope it'll be green, and that I get one!

At this point I'm probably only going for the black micarta and jigged bone variants.

My 88 arrived today..... I'll get some better pictures tomorrow....

Seems like a real nice pattern..... It feels good in hand no matter which blade is deployed.... Although a full size knife, it has an agile, precise feel..... I'd class it as medium duty.....

Fit & Finish are fine.... I'll offer that the sharp corner at the rear of the blade spines can easily be given a corner break with your wife's nail file....

I'm Guessing that the pulls are 6-7'ish..... I also have accuracy issues guessing how many jelly beans are in the jar..... However, I can pinch the LF open and I'm an old geezer with Psoriatic Arthritis ridden hands..... The nail nicks are crisp, so your finger nail gets a good grip.....

I think you'll like the knife if you should get one.....

This is just for a size comparison - nothing to do with brand. Pictured is the GEC 88 Bayou Trapper and a Case Sowbelly Stockman. Of course both are on a Sowbelly pattern. The GEC is about an 8th of an inch to a quarter inch longer closed than the Case: however, I don't think the Gec would be any if at all more of a pocket burden that the Case.

GEC did a really great job with the 88 Bayou Trapper.

I will note though that the Lambsfoot blade of the GEC nestles much closer in the frame than the Sheepsfoot blade of the Case.

I agree with your assessment. Even though the sowbelly is nothing new, I think the design twist and blades incorporated creates something unique for a change. I really like this knife.

Damn I was going to hold off for an ironwood but I really like that etch. Look great.
