I could live with that, but it does change the radius curve on top of the knife, which changes it's overall look and design. I'm thinking they were just trying to create something somewhat unique here and had to go with what made it work.
I think it's cool we all come up with our own ideas of improvement, but it is what it is and I really like it myself.
 
Just for reference, here are some Charlie Bell sowbellies where the tang is either completely sunken or nearly so (yes, I like sowbellies!). I think it is due, at least to some extent, to the curvature and width of the handle, as well as the blade shape.

This one is nearly sunken, but not quite.

Gators fan here. This knife is shaping up to be a perfect knife for me. I hope they make the jigging look like Gator skin somehow. Gator shield is going to be awesome.

You had to figure it was coming somewhere especially being it was in the hallway and is the bayou model. The color has now been determined, but they wont tell me. I would assume some shade of green or crawfish red. Now for jig and etch.
How about a jig that resembles gator hide and an etch of Troy from Swamp People, or just the words "Choot Em!":)
