2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

Personally, I'd have much preferred to see Gator Paw - errrrrrrrrr, Gator Claw jigging instead of the boring, mundane, jigging pattern GEC used on this Swamp Green Bayou Trapper. Kinda like in the past and even currently, knife manufactures have mimicked peach seed pits pattern in their Peach Seed jigging.

I’m with you, Ed. The jigged bone they used on the 93 lambsfoot would have been perfect here.

😂

That would have been a good design meeting to be a fly on the wall in.
I think these things go something like this.

Bill: Randy make me a sowbelly.

Randy runs off and makes a sowbelly and brings it back to Bill.

Bill: No, not a stockman. Put one of those lambsfoot blades on it.

Randy runs off...
... returns with lambsfoot.

Bill: Randy I want a gator.

Randy runs off...

You get the picture.

The green bone has me more interested than the other options for this knife, but the gator shield is a "no" for me.
I wasn't very sold on the pattern to begin with, but the green bone did make it better, but the gator shield lost it for me again.
But doesn't the gator blade etch move it right back to "yes" again, John?? ;)

And ... there you have it.

Now let’s hope the competition for Ironwood goes down a bit lol
Pretty doggone awesome.

Full polish? Looking good! Can't wait to see it in some sunlight.

Yes, highly polished metal...... The wood is more of a satin...... I assume GEC uses some type of polyurethane vs lacquer???......

Their ironwood has always been a little tricky in my experience. Lots of "ripples" when finished (but I guess this is typical of ironwood). But contrast, figuration, and chatoyance make ironwood so special, and it looks like yours fits that bill nicely.

I am very pleased with the character of the wood...... It looks like it might have some crotch or burl in it..... I'll try to get truer pictures in a day or so...😊👍
