2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

Lots of beautiful examples here. For those of you lucky enough to have landed different covers for this run. Have you noticed any difference in action? I was able to land a micarta one and the action is perfection. However it was quickly claimed by my son so I am on the hunt for the gator but was wandering about the action. Thank you in advance.
The action on the clip is real nice. The lamb is a little lazy from halfstop to close, but that’s if I’m nitpicking. I’m thinking it will improve after some flushing. I would recommend getting one.

Thank you. I remember the recent 85 run the micartas cap lifter was a lot heavier pull than the acrylics I had. Wondering if that is the case between cover options on this run of 88s. Definitely shooting for that gator version now!

I honestly really enjoy looking at everyone’s photos. I decided to take a seat on the sidelines with GEC collecting for now but will continue to live vicariously through you folks for now.

You like pictures Steven Wharn Wharn ? Here are some pictures. I took these in dim light to contrast the hardware (blades, bolsters, shields, etc.) against the covers.

I have had the micarta, acrylic, and bone versions pass through. Bone is the only one left. The pulls and actions on all of my examples have been very similar if not the exactly the same. There are some tactile differences that make them feel different, however I felt the actions were comparable. I will also add that I didn't have any proud tips on my lambsfoot blades as others that are more sensitive to that have reported.

Glad to hear that, thank you.

Very nice.... it's good to see them be used. Those might be the most stylish of the run... tough to beat the ironwood, though... again.... very nice...

I'm of a mind that anyone who receives this pattern and doesn't put it to use is doing themselves a disservice. It is a superb knife that is packed with utility.

It looks like you're using the clip blade more than the lambsfoot. Or perhaps the lambsfoot is for utility work and the clip is for cutting sandwiches? At any rate, that Ace is aces! Almost making me second think my gator choice.

I have to admit, the clip on this knife is a brilliant piece of work. It has been my go-to choice for food and such and the Lambsfoot, as you said, has been used for more utilitarian functions (i.e. opening packages and letters, breaking down boxes, etc.). In all frankness, the knife is everything I had hoped it would be and I haven't carried another knife since I got it.

The only reason I haven't used my micarta #88 yet is to keep it pristine in case I can trade it for a green bone Northfield. I have waited over ten years for GEC to bring out a sowbelly, and the green jigged bone would be a pinnacle knife for me. I have no problem at all with people who buy one of every handle material in a run, as long as they are not doing it just to flip. Since I have not the computer savvy to get one from a dealer any longer, the only way I can get one for a reasonable price is at the mercy of those who do get multiples.

The light is fading..... I had planned to shoot a few frames earlier but a nap won out..... My wife just had her left shoulder replaced and I've been her "Step-N-Fetch-It" person..... Also, today I had my 3rd visit to my root canal guy trying to cure a nasty, abscessed root.... So when the nap opportunity presented itself, I took advantage.....

Here are some 88 shots for your viewing pleasure......

One thing I'm noticing about these 88s is that the blade etches aren't as bold/standoutish/dark as on other GECs that I have especially on the Gator and Yeti knives. Probably just me but it's caught my attention anyway. This will please Miss Cole who was my third grade teacher and said I needed to pay closer attention to my surroundings.

Wish they wouldn't have "pinched" the bolsters on thr green bone.
They all look great and I like the black and bolo the best.
