2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

Don't get me wrong, those that truly collect, and want multiples... good for them! I have no problem with people collecting. I'm just not "connected" enough, or savvy enough technically, to beat the others who ARE. Life in the fast lane...

But, I've had a couple of great members offer to sell me one of theirs, and not at flipper prices.... I'm going to pick up one of those... and be very grateful.
I don't even mind paying a modest profit to those that have extras they want to sell... it's the ones that want to double their money on them, as if they will make a living doing that....

But.... I want to see more pics of the ironwood ones... let's see em !!
maybe one of those will come along down the road sometime.

I don't collect multiples but I collect the entire series (1 of each cover)..... I do it ethically w/o involving secondary, back alley transactions...... I don't trade, sell, barter or use my knives.... I'm proud of my collection and enjoy displaying them......
But, as I said before, I feel like a pariah in today's atmosphere for even displaying them...

About four to five Case or Lambsfoot knives. 😁
I'm okay with saying a GEC knife is worth twice what a Case knife is worth, but four or five times as much? Ummmm... No!
And before anybody says it, "YES" you can pick up new Case knives on the secondary market for around $40.00... I've done it many times.
2-5 tanks of gas depending where you live. 1 bottle of bourbon for some. Maybe 2-3 briskets depending where you live. A pile of rough ryders. Rent for a month in some cases.

It's all relative.

Don't... you should not feel that way at all.
I think people recognize a flipper when they see one.... and you most definitely are not one.:thumbsup:

@meako MSRP is like

Micarta $155.49
Yeti $175.15
Ironwood $196.09
Gator $205 (approx.)

Where did you get that information? Two dealers that I buy from with random drops priced the yeti at $148 and the ironwood at $166. I tend to use them as the reference for prices. Maybe they're not technically "MSRP," but they have the fairest prices.

You’re no pariah, Brent. You collect in a specific way. Keep showing em.

I'm pretty jazzed about getting one... Porch members are great folks....
I like sowbellies.... I have 4 or 5 Case sowbellies, a RR, and one MooreMaker... I wanted one of these when they first announced them, but like I said, the scramble for them is prohibitive for me.
I also like the idea of a lambsfoot blade on it.... I'll reserve final judgement on it until I have one in my sweaty palms, but I think I'll like it.

Ironwood pics???? C'mon, don't be bashful... :D

No need to feel like a pariah for displaying your knives. As you said; your collection is something for you to be proud of. I've only got three of these Bayou Trappers but may get the fourth just to round out my knife box. I don't particularly like acrylic because it's a bit difficult to polish up and remove scratches after carrying it loose in a pocket with keys and change.

You need the beaver one though. 😉

These are official GEC MSRP's

To that I would say Bull ---- (word I'm not allowed to type here). $200.00 is nothing. With this run, it's almost at what GEC is charging the dealers.
If you feel that a new pocket knife is worth that and much more... Go for it.
But the more people willing to spend insane amounts to obtain one will never get the demand and prices down... it will only increase.
You can't blame the retailers and flippers for hiking up their prices because people are willing to spend the money. When people become unwilling to spend the money, the prices and availability will adjust. You can't just blame the sellers, it takes two to tango. Buying over retail just adds to the problem.

This just arrived. Fantastic knife!
