2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

I can definitely see where that would make quite the difference. I might even be inclined to perform that sort of modification/improvement if I hadn't become so fond of that tall, thin blade (obtrusive as it is) - it gets used just as much as the main blade.

Just out of curiosity, what were you cutting to get that patina on that blade.

Oh yeah.... the sheepfoot is my most used blade, I think. Having the nail nick on the "front" side makes it even that much more friendly. Great knives...
Great cigar there, as well....

Thank you, my friend. Those Brickhouse sticks are excellent - definitely on my list of go-to cigars.

I took that picture some time ago but if memory serves, I had grilled up some chicken recently.

I generally feel that Ironwood is always a good choice. However, if GEC goes with their customary satin finish on their Ironwood this go around, it's going to be quite a disservice to the fancy bolsters and shield.

I hope they reconsider or at least have dialed in their buffing and polishing processes to better accommodate this sort of material.

Read my mind.

I agree. If they come too matte, I usually polish them out myself. It helps to keep the wood from darkening so much as well.

I spoke to people in the know at GEC today, and they said they feel this is the nicest batch of ironwood they recall ever getting. There sure is some nice figuring going on there.

Did you find out what color jigged bone they are going with?

if it’s not green then the gator won’t make sense.

I hope it is the green they used on the Urban Jack knives.
You may be led to believe that, but who knows what the gator signifies. It may just be the moniker for the bayou. And what are the black things on the floor? Muskrat footprints? They don't match any of the handle scales thus far, and we know 3 of the 4 shields already, and only the spade matches up with things in the hallway. Who knows the mindset there?

The initial mockup GEC created showed brown jigged bone on the 88, so wouldn't that be the color of the jigging? Or does GEC sometimes switch it up to keep us guessing?

That was just a rendering. It may be or may not be what they have in mind.

I respect your opinion, however I disagree and I will be working to get one.

Yep, that's a nice green indeed. It's just not for me. Oh well, if that's the case, it'll just make another one available for someone who will enjoy it. Another really cool carving by the way!
