2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

Wow, just when I said I needed to save more next month due to inflation, GEC puts out these awesome shield/cover configurations.

So we have spade and diamond (hound tooth). Will they put a heart and club on the Northfields?

Do we know for sure hound tooth will be a diamond? I'd be curious...

I think if GEC intended for there to be a diamond shield, they would have planned to use their actual diamond shield. A bit of a bummer that they aren't, the diamond is a great looking shield.

That is looking like a very "pocket-filling" pattern. Is this going to be their "broadest" knife?
Don't Sowbelly knives usually have sunken joints, or very close to sunken joints?
It's going to be interesting to hear everybody's thoughts on them as they get them.
I like the Spade shield with the Black Micara. I also like that they will use of White Acrylic.
They should be attractive.

It's going to be big for sure! I think it's gonna make a great outdoor knife, if the closed knife length is 4", it's looks like it will be a little over 1" width (more like 1.25")... this one gonna need a belt pouch or it will be carried in the back pocket/jacket pocket. Still smaller than a Buck 110! hahaha

The lambsfoot blade looks nearly sunken in this photo, but the main looks very unsunken in the other photos. That's a bit of a bummer because one beauty of the sowbelly is packing the knife deeper into the well for better feel in hand and pocket.

It depends on who makes the Sowbelly.

On Case Sowbelly Stockman knives, the main joint is nearly sunk, the sheepfoot slightly less so, and the spey not sunk at all. On a Queen-made Sowbelly Stockman, none of the joints are sunken or even close and this one by GEC follows the Queen form more closely than the Case form, based on my observations so far.

Good to know. I didn't realize hound tooth looked like that. I stand corrected. I guess we then should assume the other suits got thrown in the trash.

I am so excited for this one. Living in Louisiana I kind of have to be, but love the large sowbelly and the strong negative blade angle. Really, really hoping I can score one. I know all GEC drops are insane nowadays, but hoping the pattern isn't to everyone's liking and I'll be able to pick one up from a retailer (which I haven't been able to do since like 2019 😢).

Have we seen Northfield blades yet? It just occurred to me they may well forgo long pulls for nail nicks on this one.

I think it's unlikely we will see long pulls on these. In past runs with the "muskrat" style clip, the swedge is done differently between the Tidioutes and Northfields but the crescent nail nicks remain the same. We will probably see the Northfields dressed up with fancy bolsters and such though.

I'm hoping for a jigged bone and a bowtie shield but really wish they would’ve done a diamond shield on one of the covers.

My fingers are crossed for slanted pinched and threaded. I want it alllll 🤪
