2022 GEC Cattle Knife/Camp Knife #35 Thread

Well, the slot in the caplifter on mine doesn't quite fit on a driver bit so I'm back to wondering why
Mine fits one, but it's juuuuuuust a hair loose. I'm back to presuming this was meant as something else, or maybe there's a specific hex nut that goes on a bicycle this was supposed to fit. Not sure!

I believe these are actually jigged, because you can see the tooling marks down in the "valley" of each scoop, if that makes sense. And they're all different, to my eye at least.
Cool, thanks. That makes sense, since Schrade and Camillus were making tens of thousands of handle scales, I guess it wouldn't be worth the expense for GEC to have molds made for these.

I've seen pictures of bits fitting in the slot. Maybe it's metric?

If I had a drover I’d definitely be switching that blade set out for the single one.
Edit: actually the nail nick on the punch is probably on the wrong side

Talk about nostalgia! Just like when I was a kid, I can't open the screwdriver/bottle opener without opening the main blade first. I'm going to give it a few days of oiling and working the tool open and closed, but if that doesn't help I'm tempted to file a nail relief into the handle. I've always had trouble with low nicks that have to be pulled straight out, and do better if I can angle my thumbnail to push up against the nick (don't know if I'm it explaining well)

I do really like this knife though, and plan to make it a user.

Gee mine open easy enough!

Does yours sit as low as mine?
I admit to having weak nails. That's actually why I started carrying a pocketknife when I was a kid. I couldn't seem to scrape and pry with my nails like the other girls could. Gives me the shivers just thinking about my thumbnail bending back. :(😫

Mine appears to be like yours, tried it again several times, no issues. I just love this knife, wish I had it as a kid. As it was my brother and I each bought really cheap knockoffs at the local convenience store, I think they were a dollar each, mounted on a cardboard placard. Never forgot it though…

Nice! My brothers had these:

I had one much like this. (once I got my knife I saw no reason to stay in Girl Scouts)

Can opener is a little awkward, but functional. Now that it's no longer mint, I may as well grind that nail relief...

Those are great! I bought an old Imperial Cub Scout knife a few years ago, cleaned it up and carried that for a while, this 35 though is every thing I’ve wanted in a knife!

Yeah, those Camper/Scout styles seemed to be the most common knives for American kids back then.

This discussion reminded me of what I did back then when a blade sat too low for my wimpy thumbnail. I just made a shim out of a bit of wood, and it seems to be working for now.👍
