2022 GEC Cattle Knife/Camp Knife #35 Thread

@chevyrulez1 welcome to the gang, your tale of woe is not new! Hang in there and dont give up!

Imagine this beauty in orange Delrin? Or Knifebrite?

I think Bill Howard got tired of requests for cap lifters and decided that after 2022 no one would ever complain about lack of caplifters ever again!
I'm sure that is what Bill thought when he made a bajillion beer scouts, but it only stoked the fire.

I don’t own one of these little tools, and don’t know if this works, but it might be a neater way of combining a hex wrench and a bottle opener - if you get thirsty while tinkering

Of course and that’s fine. For me though I’ve never needed, or longed for another blade.
That's what's so wonderful about having such variety of knives available.
Personally, I like to have a small straight edge as well as a wider blade with a belly. Oh, and also something with a pointy tip. Plus a bunch of tools...😄

I keep one for skin, always finer and sharper than the others. I can make a glassy cut in loose, wet, or crumbly skin. Never used for anything else, ever. I also like an abuse knife for tape and boxes, and finally an EDC edge for everything else. Nowdays, that's a 2 blade Victorinox and another knife, but it has been a 3 blade at times.

Nice, personally I find the tools on a scout to be something I don't long for. However use two and three blades on a knife daily. It's very cool that with one platform a cutler can come up with so much variety to satisfy everyone's tastes.
I also find myself carrying 2-3 blades. I miss a second blade when I need to open a box and then peel an apple. Of course, this is only when I have to carry one single knife. I like to have a scout for fruit and tools and a modern for heavy use.

Single knife days tend to be 3 blade days: one blade for food, one for utility, and one always sharp backup blade.

I had a couple of kind members reach out and as a result, I was able to scoop up a Cattle Knife. I have to say, all the pictures here do not do this knife justice. It is well made with thinly ground blades, steel construction, and pulls that are just about right - plus, I love that deep color in the bone.

One of my main complaints regarding GEC's execution of spear blades is that they tend to leave too much meat behind the bevel towards the tip. It's nice to se that their sharpening has improved a bit - I won't have to spend as much time tuning this one up.

The #35 pattern is one of my favorites and though my assortment isn't exhaustive, I am pleased with the ones that I have. I might be inclined to try and land a Camp Knife at some point to round things out. Pictured below, you will find the 2nd GEC I owned in the 2016 Forum Knife and my 4th (maybe 5th?) GEC in the Churchill - the 35 is very much a part of the onset of my GEC enthusiasm.

This Cattle Knife is already a fast favorite.
