2022 GEC Cattle Knife/Camp Knife #35 Thread

Does yours sit as low as mine?
I admit to having weak nails. That's actually why I started carrying a pocketknife when I was a kid. I couldn't seem to scrape and pry with my nails like the other girls could. Gives me the shivers just thinking about my thumbnail bending back. :(😫
I have the same problem and fear I've done it a few times, the thought gives me shivers as well.

Nice! My brothers had these:

I had one much like this. (once I got my knife I saw no reason to stay in Girl Scouts)

Can opener is a little awkward, but functional. Now that it's no longer mint, I may as well grind that nail relief...

I was helping a friend clean out their deceased mother's house, when we came upon her Girl Scout knife, just like this one, rusted, and with her childhood signature on a piece of crumbling tape. I restored the knife, electrolytically etched her signature into the blade, and presented it in a GEC tube with the original signature inlaid on the side. Now I always smile when I see those knives.

that's lovely! What a thoughtful gift.

Thanks! Took me months to get everything together for the blade etch, but it was well worth it. Cleaning up the signature digitally was the hardest part.

It also really lit a fire in me for a GEC camp knife. Probably half my posts in BF are saying I wanted GEC to do a 35 camp knife, ha. I missed this run, but hopefully they'll make more someday, and I'll have another crack at it.

Scratch that, forum member JRRsix7 JRRsix7 saw my posts and sold me one!!! I had told myself a pretty good story about being fine with missing out, but my relief and excitement right now would indicate that was a lie.

That's great!

Now I don't feel so guilty, hanging on to mine. 😇
I don't think I've ever been quite as excited about a delrin knife as I am about this #35 Johnny on the Spot. How does Bill Howard do this to me?!
I know! Crazy, isn't it?

My favorite knife is an old Case sodbuster with black delrin covers. I really like it as a material.

It’s a timeless and practical design.

Crazy, timeless, practical, favorite. I sure hope so!

I did have a large Case sodbuster in delrin that was an awesome user. I ended up putting in Mr. Knife's neverending giveaway passaround. I had another small sodbuster that got confiscated at a theme park. Isn't it funny how knife nuts can love everything across the spectrum of knife materials? From delrin to mammoth molars, something about these tools manages to captivate.

Confiscated you say? Did you get it back when you left. That wanted to do that at a concert here, rather than take a chance at losing my beloved Caplifter forever. I ran it all the way back to my truck and left it there!

Easier said than done when you're towing the wife and five kiddos and the car is several blocks away. ;) I've been meaning to get another one, but since I got one of the recent GEC 71s my itch has been scratched.

That must have hurt!

Well, it was a case I picked up in the same giveaway that I put my big un in, so I guess it was meant to be for someone else to get it. I was a little miffed because I had taken it the day before and they didn't find it.

Look what was waiting for me when I got home. Stunning knife all in all, and the absolute perfect size. Weirdly miss the half stops of other GEC's since this is my first one without. Can't wait to spend more time with it as I wait for Johnny on the Spot. Happy weekend everyone
When did the camp / tool knife drop? I bought them last week on eBay because I couldn’t find them at dealers!
