In person, mine is more navy blue than green. I like it as well.I do really like that greenish Richlite.
Maybe we need a new term, like āhalf-bolster Barlowā.I just bought up one of these in Cocobolo, Northfield. Just like the picture above, excited to get one. Itās not a Jack, the bolster is too long. I wouldnāt say itās totally a barlow either, even though Bill calls it one.
I do agree with the sentiment that if Bill calls it a barlow, itās a barlow. However, I think this is more or a hybrid between a Jack and a Barlow.
I have seen a few antique barlows that do have a shorter bolster. However this one has a noticeably short bolster to cover ratio when compared to other barlows. Still, I agree with Bill. I think he may be having fun with this, knowing it will drive discussion on the topic.
I donāt particularly mind if itās a jack or a barlow, I want to carry it, and the pattern is nice. Seems like a good size too. Iāll snap a photo once it arrives.
Barlow Jack perhapsMaybe we need a new term, like āhalf-bolster Barlowā.
Alright, the thread canāt get any better. Lock it up mods. There once was a knife known as Jack
There once was a knife known as Jack
Until GEC gave it hack
Bill shortened the end
And rounded it then
Itās the Bullet End Barlow Jack
It stirred up debate and chatter
Said some with Bill whatās the matter
Randy chimed in
And said with a grin
Itās like weāve become the Mad Hatter
Its got a great clip and pen
But thatās by no means the end
Theyāve wrapped 'round the spring
And what did that bring?
Good heft as it filled in the end
With aesthetics so grand
And covers not bland
Whiskey barrel oak
Add in Rozeeās joke
All to be held in the hand
Inevitable I suppose
Came all of the SFOs
Itās not just a tool
But a gentlemanās jewel
And which of those gems had I chose?
Smooth white bone
Is the houndās toothās home
Fit and finish so fine
It had to be mine
Northwestās SFO I now own
Itās National Knife Day today
Much to my walletās dismay
But for me thereās no sorrow
I bought a Bullet End Barlow
And in my pocket it stays
Bill can call his 78 a Barlow but I tell people , when they ask , that it is a Bullet End Jack . I do not keep it with my Barlows but I still like it a lot and carry it very often .
