I have purchased a new 25 and recieved it in the mail on Saturday. I was not able to open it and fondle until yesterday. But there is a slight amount of lock rock up and down. It kind of made me sad....
Who else has had some lock rock? And has takng it apart and reassembling it help. Let me know what could help. Thanks

Can you explain your issues a little more? I know what lock rock is but there has been a couple different reports that I have seen and I wasn't really sure that they knew what they were talking about. (One person mentioned it in the same sentence while describing a slight "wiggle" in the blade when the blade is almost closed.) I assume you know what you are talking about but just have to ask.

Haha! Yeah I get what you're saying. Some people's kids I tell ya!! When the blade is in the full open and locked position. I get slight blade play up and down. I haven't taken it apart or tightened the pivot at all yet. Just wanted to get some feed back. Plus I haven't had anytime yet.

None on mine. June 2013 BD. It locks up super tight as expected. With the nature of the lock I would imagine if you had up and down play you would also have some forward/backwards play as well since it would be more than likely not tight against the stop pin.

I guess you would also explain as forward and backwards blade play. Mine is BD June 13th. Not up and down

I would send it in. I haven't taken mine apart enough to know if the stop pin rotates, but I wouldn't do that as a long term solution. Mine is June 12.

I would take it apart and reassemble. I am not sure what that might fix but it is worth a try:)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I'm gonna take apart and reassemble tonight. If it works I'll let ya know. If not I'll send it in. It's just sad I just got it... Oh well

Knife is brand new. Use it some more and let the lock settle in.

Also how hard do you have to force the knife to induce this movement you see?

With enough force you can get any lock to move a little.

So under normal use this shouldn't be an issuer correct?

I'm giving it some good force! With the applied pressure at the tip for good torque

Not sure but I think this is normal. I was able to do the same with two nib umnumzaans that I handled at a dealer. Perhaps it will wear in and become solid? I would give CRK a call and see what they say. I'd be curious to know as well.

Well I would say no. because I have a small 21 no issue there. And also a Mnandi, no issue there either. My mini grip no issue. So that's why it's disappointing. I have come to expect none at all. I have gotten rid of other knives for that reason.

I have had five 25's, 2 from 2012 and 3 from 2013 and never had even the slightest amount of lock rock but I guess it could happen. If you got it from a dealer send it back.

I just talked with Angela at CRK on the phone and she was very polite. And told me to send it in to them and they'll take care of me

I would open and close it a few hundred times. It's needs to break in I would think. The 25 uses a ceramic ball lock system unlike the former Sebs. Give it some use and see if it don't get "solid as a rock" lock up after break in.

Could be that your not exerting enough force.
If you pull and yank hard enough on the blade of a folding knife looking for the tinyest bit of movement your probably going to find it on more knives then not.

Like you said, the knife is brand new. So give it some time for the lock to set in and the lock up should improve.
But if it doesn't improve over time and you can't live with it just send it in. CRK has some great customer service.

Good luck.

Are you saying that it feels like the bushing in the blade could be slightly larger than the pivot itself, thus causing a tiny amount of play forwards and backwards. Try disengaging the lock and trying it. If it does it with the lock disengaged i would send it in, maybe the hole in the blade or the pivot bushing are slightly larger than they should be. Or you could try taking it apart and greasing the pivot area and seeing if it still exists.

I think he is talking about the flex in the lock bar. It is not actually "play" in that it is not the off fitting of parts that causes it, but it of course is still "play" in that the blade can be moved. :p

If I push hard enough, I can get my large Sebenza to move off the stop pin while locked. With a couple pounds force, no movement at all.

As stated above, you may be asking a bit much and/or the lock needs to settle in a bit.
