Well, I've now got over 1K posts just in this section, and I'm at 2500+ OAL. So, time for another contest. Since I like y'all the best, you get to benefit from the contest.

Restrictions (thanks to Hark):
*Must be 18 years of age or older (if I ask for proof, you shall and will provide it)
*Must live in the continental United States, excluding New York City.
*Must be a Beckerhead, or else a contributing member of this subforum who is on-track to become a Beckerhead. To be judged by yours truly. -edit- Contributing member of the HTM forum will also do, in retrospect, because I love HTM knives also.
*Must abide by all local, state, and Federal knife laws.
*Must be a carbon based life form.
*Must own a Becker knife. -edit- Or an HTM/DDR. I suppose I should add in my other blade love, HTM being my other favorite subforum.
*Must be able to roughly sketch a knife.
*Must be willing to communicate regularly via email so I can get the knife as close to your desires as possible.
MISCELLANEOUS fine print: Winner agrees to abide by all local, state, and federal laws regarding knife ownership. I will not be held responsible for any injury or death caused by inappropriate use of the knife. The knife is not a toy and should not be treated as such. These knives are sharp and can cause injury if mishandled.

Anyways, on to the contest.

1. You must post a pic of your favorite Becker knife, customized or not. It does not have to be yours.

2. You must design your dream fixed blade knife, and it must be based loosely around a Becker design. Make sure we can see what features you've redesigned. Maybe you want a Becker short handle, but bigger for your giant mitt? Maybe you want to see a different blade style on a handle? Maybe you want your own handle design on a Becker blade? Maybe you want something totally different but you think it would be a good addition to the Becker line?

What do you win? You win the blade you designed, made out of 1095 (or possibly 5160), and bocote handles + steel pins. If you want something more interesting materials-wise, I'll do it, but will charge materials cost (since things like damascus steel, high end burl, mosaic pins, etc, are fairly pricey, and right now I can't afford to buy more). I'd prefer you limit your designs to 12", with a maximum of 18".

Winner or winners will be chosen based around the design or designs I am most excited to create. Who knows, maybe we'll create something really cool, and we might get to be responsible for creating something that Ethan decides to put into full production, like the Eskabar. :)

UPDATED - I want to fill in that missing link and make a BK-8, aka the BK-Oregon.:D I know there was a concept knife that was dubbed the BK-8 in the database, but that isn't going to happen, right? I really like the BK12/Ritter RSK MK2 but due to the length and weight, it's just not the same kind of chopper as the BK9 and I'd like to see another large, general purpose knife in the lineup that can chop with the king. I started with that pattern - standard Becker handles, wide chord drop point, and high flat grind, and just take it out to 8 inches, of course. I could probably be persuaded off of this but I'd also like to see a very modest choil to allow you to choke up a bit more and help with some fine work. The pattern below is a decent representation of the concept but is not drawn to scale.

EDIT: I overlooked that the 9 is a little wider than the 12 and realized it wasn't clear above what I was thinking. I think for the length and purpose I'm proposing, the blade should be wider than the 12 and probably around the same width as the 9.

Design:

My Becker BK2+. I designed it on an existing photo, that didn't have the extended pommel. I would like it better with an extended pommel, but still gives you the idea. I would just like to have the grivory scales on it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/830923-BK2-Design

I always thought this basic blade would be kinda cool as well:

I already did this...and have it siting here on my desk, plus I won your last GAW. So I will sit this one out. But great contest idea!

Thanks for the chance CF...

Looking forward to seeing your entries! Thanks for entering. This could be a really short contest if someone puts up something that I just have to make. Then again, even if I declare a winner, feel free to keep entering. I may just make other ones as the fancy strikes me.

Well...I'm a newer member working on becomming a Beckerhead. This is the only subforum on here that I post on so it seems fitting. I'm going to be stripping my new BK16 within a week or so...I've definitely caught the disease. Never entered an online contest before, so if allowed, it will be fun.

Reserved, pending your approval CF.

My favorite so far is "The King." It's always a toss up between the BK9 and BK10, really, but the BK9 proved its merit this past week in batoning and chopping some stuff that I thought a knife had no right handling. The good news is, it made the ESEE-6 look like a chump's knife.

You said rough sketch, and that's about my level of ability! What I've got is a Wharnecliffe style necker, based on the BK14 handle. The thumb jimping, I just couldn't get right, but it's there as an idea. The non-black portion of the blade indicates a taper and it would have a v-grind or convex for the edge.

Go for it bud. Looking forward to seeing your design.

mrn8, I like that wharnie a lot, but don't have the tooling to skeletonize, or to drill a hole that big. So that's a good FYI for all entries.

I'm not eligible but if anyone is struggling to come up with a design feel free to use this one that I drew up a while back, I was inspired by Beckers and Swamprat knives~

WOW, great contest!
Your da MAN, whether I win or not.

Here's one I still want to see made
I designed it to take the standard handles, but if not, so what!!!

Here's my favorite today...it changes like I change shirts really.

If that one doesn't do it for you...I like the top Parang in this drawing. I sketched it up a couple years ago...

I am a little low on the post count, but I am working on it. I love the size and thickness of the blade on the new tweeners, but I much prefer the bigger thicker handles of the original Beckers. I would love a tweener (BK 16 or 17) blade mated with a full sized becker handle with some liners to match BK 2 handle thickness. I would also shave the pommel, just add a lanyard hole. I tried to cut and past a couple photos together to show what I was thinking of, the scale might be a little off.

I love my 17!

Reserving this spot for my entry. Still working on my artwork. It looks like my 6 year old drew it with her left foot right now :p

The basic concept is Becker grip (standard out of whichever material) on a straight machax. 12in blade (a little longer than the normal but same shape). Scandi grind on the first 3.5 inches of the blade, convex grind on the rest. Squared spine. (Same machete modifications Calhoun from "the tube" site does...he's on these forums but I can't remember his name). I'd like the steel to be 1095 and about 3/16ths thick. The knife would, first and foremost, serve as a machete / chopper with a secondary role as an all around utility knife. I hesitate to use the word "survival knife" due to the over usage of that term.

In my mind, a machete style blade serves the user moreso than specifically a chopping blade. The nature of this design lends itself to be a servicable chopper (since it is basically a straight elongated machax), but still has the length and speed to effectively clear thorny brush. The design would make easy work of clearing a campsite, blazing a trail, and gathering material for cordage.

The ergos of the Becker handle is a proven design as well, which helps in the reduction of user fatigue as well as shock from impact.

I will edit this post with a hopefully to scale drawing tomorrow or Sunday. Hell, if I don't win I may just buy one of these from you anyway if you do that sort of thing.

I could drill a bunch of little holes and such. And do a lanyard hole. Probably not one big enough for a finger though. Not sure how important that is.

Not very. It was mostly in sticking with the Becker theme that I took the BK14 handle and modified it a bit.
