2500 post GAW - design your own full tang fixed blade (must have becker content)

WOW, great contest!
Your da MAN, whether I win or not.

Here's one I still want to see made
I designed it to take the standard handles, but if not, so what!!!

Here's my favorite today...it changes like I change shirts really.

If that one doesn't do it for you...I like the top Parang in this drawing. I sketched it up a couple years ago...

+10 on that Jungle King, its like a BK-9 /Chinese Chopper I would LOVE to see this made!

EDIT, the two Beckers that I really want to see added to the line up?

1: a 7 inch version of the BK-2
2: a 11 inch version of the BK-2

Seeing a theme here ? ..lol I love the 2, I think a 11 inch version would replace the KING as the chopping master (even in the current BK-9 thickness this would be a sexy beast), and a 7 inch version (in full BK-2 thickness) would be a monster survival knife.

The Jungle King sketch I would love to own one, but I dont know how well it would sell in the line up. People would buy it, dont get me wrong, but it looks kind of Rambo-ish which would turn some people off.
EDIT (Make this a 11 or 12 inch blade, and this thing might just bump my other big knives out of rotation.)

The two I propose, I think would sell like hotcakes and fill a gap in the current line up.

mrn8, I like that wharnie a lot, but don't have the tooling to skeletonize, or to drill a hole that big. So that's a good FYI for all entries.

CF07:
If you're starting from a non-hardened blank with the skeleton sketched out on it, I could get you close to the lines on the Bridgeport mill, then you'd just have to finish it off with file or grinder. No charge. I think my hole size limit is around 3". :D

The top one looks somewhat in the Dadoa Chinese Great Sword family though it needs to be longer re Dadao. The bottom one seems related to the Potbelly which I've been thinking alot about lately and reading every quality review that I can find. I like your ideas.

Thanks for the offer. I kinda prefer doing what I can myself. I'm looking into various options for the thumb hole, and I could swiss cheese the other part and have it come out pretty interesting.

gunknifenut's jungle king design certainly sounds like it's popular. I am curious what the purpose of the indent in the back is for. I like cleaner lines myself, and the whole blade isn't far off from that modified 9 someone did, but with a bit more of a belly.

bkoregon, nice idea on the long RSK. I've got the regular RSK on my list as well. Looking forward to seeing more entries.

Thanks folks for the kind words.

My idea was basically to take the Becker handle, and add a 10 inch blade to it, something other than the machete, the current lineup doesn't have...Also, its not so much that I want to design another Becker, as much as I like the current handle options out there in the world. It would give the owner lots of choices.
As for the blade, I wanted it to have a sweeping edge..similar to the BK5, which IMO, is easiest to sharpen in the field with whatever one might find.
The "Rambo" tip...is simply based on a Golok style bush tool. I like them.
The spine! Well, I wanted something with a bit of a dip or indent in it, to take some weight from the center, and therefore add it to the sweet spot, same concept as a Kukri, only reversed...AND, I like to use my lanyard slipped up my wrist, and then I grip the spine and use the tip for fine work. I feel like the "dip" would add a sense of purchase...if not actually.
I think a few others have said in the past, they thought the knife was cool except for the "gimmicky" spine. I don't see it as such, but ...hmmph, to each their own...I would still love to own one, whether it had the dip or not.
EDIT: Also..revisiting the design..I would keep the dip and loose the thumb ramp...I think it would look smoother right out of the gate.
Like I said....awesome contest! Whether I win or not, you are a really cool guy for doing this for the forums...thanks a bunch!

I don't have any drawings of this yet, but I've been thinking for ages how I think a 6in bladed belt knife would be awesome. I like the handle on the BK17 that I held, but it was a bit small for me, but I liked how it felt for a "midsized" knife handle.

I'm thinking of something of a hybrid of the BK16, BK15, and BK12. Ideally the knife would be designed to fit into the stock tweener sheath (they're too long for the BK16 if anyone else has noticed).

5/32 thick, FFG (or high saber... like very high), largerish tweener handle (slightly longer, and with thicker scales), no thumb ramp, and somewhere between a spear and drop point, but with lots of belly.

I'll see if I can't get around to photochopping or drawing this thing up sometime soon. If you close this thing down before then, thats totally fine. Its just something I've been thinking about for a while, and figure this might be good motivation to get it down :).

Oh, and great contest, I'd really love to see another eskabar come out of this :).

Sorry for the late response. I have zero computer skills, so anyone wanting to help me out, feel free. I would design a Becker style cleaver. It would look like this one. Only it would have a Becker grivory handle & be full width-extended tang like all the fullsize Beckers. The handle would be angled slightly downwards to aid in wrist position when in hard use, to help alleviate fatigue. It would be of 1/4-3/8" stock, 1095 Cro-Van, have a hang hole in top front of blade but also have a VERY sharp pointed beard. This would be an outstanding tool.

1066vik, I've made a little integral hatchet, but that requires a rather wide piece of steel, and I can only get 5" wide from Aldo without special ordering. So no, not quite what I was looking for.

I've done a chinese cleaver of my own design before. Those turned out pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Becker cleaver, since there's already the kitchen knife set.

I would like to see an "outdoor cleaver" rather than a kitchen cleaver. There really IS a lack of a good outdoor cleaver. They would not be able to be kept in stock if they ever did make it.

Is this more doable? Pretty big for this style of blade, but man I'm stuck on the Wharncliffe style blade. I'm really more partial to the necker style, but was messing around with this over my lunch break.

Yep, that's doable too. I actually have a mini wharnie already made, as it happens. I think the necker will be feasible, just without the big cutouts.

I like that bottom one, W. That'd be an incredible blade.

I'm pretty sure that's 4" stock - but I was also pretty certain it was not what you're looking for.
just wanted to show off a bit. :D
