Ok, so i have been bitten by the bug with all these generous giveaways going on and 2500 posts is a reasonable milestone to do a giveaway.
I have also been the recipient of more than one giveaway myself of the last 4 years, so its my time to do another one.

Let me just say, I dont have the time or energy to do a giveaway like Primble just pulled off (excellent by the way). But I want to do something to give back to the community.

I just want to say that my friends and family all think i am weird, why do i actually look at forums at pictures of KNIVES, i mean i could be doing something constructive with my time, so its nice to have my online family to obsess with, joke with and share such an esoteric hobby with. So for that thank you all for that.

The theme of many of these recent giveaways has been learning more about each other, and I think i am going to continue that theme. To enter this giveaway, I'd like to see a picture of you, so we can all see what we look like, a pic of the book that has meant those most to us for whatever reason and a pic of "Your precious" whichever knife you consider to be "your precious" So i expect the easiest thing is a pic of your favorite knife on or next to your favorite book.

I am not going to restrict this to anyone, so anyone that wants in, can play. I will ship anywhere in the US and Canada, but i am a bit leery of international shipping costs, but i'm going to try and see if i cant still make that happen!

The prize? A knife that I like, but just cant seem to get myself to carry. I have sharpened it and toyed with giving a little patina, but only carried it maybe a half a dozen times. I dont know, i just never bonded with it, and maybe someone else will and that is also a good thing.

Great giveaway. I've been pretty lucky lately, so not an entry. I'll share a little about me though.

Me

Favorite knife, Case 6375 with the Pioneer

Most of my books are ebooks now.... Fav?
Lonesome Dove? Could be others too... Lord of the Rings might be up there.

My wife and I went to a cousin's wedding, it was nice to be on a casual trip with no kids!

Here is my Phil Tham lockback with camel bone scales. He made it for me last year, Phil lives not too far from me and I got to visit his shop and talk knives with him. Steven King is my favorite author, but I don't have a lot of spare time to read right now:)

you heard the boss. i meant if folks want to enter, they can enter, not just the regulars.
that being said, we have to honor the rules of the sub-forum
thanks guys :p

Not sure why Primble is too tired to play......maybe it was his insane marathon giveaway. Count me in, very generous. My favorite knives and books probably change daily but here goes.
Here I am at the local hardware store with my buddy looking for extra large bolt cutters but it seems they were out and only had these. Childs play I say!

Here I am at Polipoli National Forest in Maui pepping up the group for our 12 mile hike up in the mountains. One of the most beautiful hikes of my life but unbelievably tiring.

Finally, my current favorite book and my current favorite knife. Cormac McCarthy is one of my favorite authors, I find his writing style extremely captivating and can barely stop reading his books once I start.

Just too many favourite books and precious's to choose from so had to narrow the field.
Case knives only and "special reason" favourite books.
The book is one that has been in my possession since my teens-I'm still laughing at Fritz so that's a good thing.
The knife is a Case TB saddlehorn trapper. I bought it new but it had the foulest colour scales ever made.Something went wrong at the dye works that my friends.
I found a link on BF for dyeing and the result was successful and pleasing. So that
s a precious to me.

Well, i'm in Europe, but i'm not very lucky, so here it is

My favorite book..well, there were many, but i liked most works by Lovecraft, Poe, van Vogt, Beleaev, Bester, well, those are many as well.
Couldn't find a real book from those times, so maybe this will do
I do have them all on my little kindle.

Pictured with my favorite knife, of course

And yours truly, in my adventure outfit

Thanks for the chance.

I'll bow out on this one, just wanted to say thanks for doing the giveaway and thanks for your contributions to the traditional subforum.

I'll play! Here are the two most recent pictures I have of myself. First one is me...in a bar...on my phone

Next one is me in my front yard

And finally, my most carried knife and the first knife I bought after finding bladeforums. If you haven't read the Shadow of the Wind, you owe it to yourself to do it. Beautifully written gothic mystery that takes place between the wars in Barcelona.

I love these "getting to know you" threads! Well done

Hi all,
I'm pretty new here so I figured this would be a good chance to introduce myself. Far to many good books to pick a favorite so the book is just one I read recently that I enjoyed. It is about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during WWII. I enjoy all kinds of history books especially WWII, and turn of the century Chicago. While most people probably wouldn't call a soddie precious the one pictured is special to me. It was my first good knife and my faithful everyday companion for over two years before I added to my small collection.

Congrats on 2500!

Well, I suppose I could get a little personal. I was a twice college drop out due to drugs and etc. People pretty much wrote me off as an addict. Im proud off this pic because at 29 I went back to college and graduated with honors.

I could not have done it however as the person I was at 26. That green book there on the bottom changed my life at 27 and I have been clean ever since, going on 7 yrs. Im a husband, and a father, and that book is the only reason I am, not only those things, but alive.

The book on top by Wendell Berry is one of my favorites. I loaned out the book I wanted to picture, "What Are People For?," also by Berry, but both are excellent reads and thought provoking.

As for the "precious," I think both of the knives pictured are it.

Thanks for the chance. It is great to be able to put a face to an avatar.

Congratulations on your post count good sir, and thanks for a most generous giveaway. Not an entry please, just a post to say thanks, and to wish everyone good luck

I'm in.

@KBA: wonderful story. I know a guy whose life was similarly changed by the same book. Sat unused on his TV for over 2 years. Unable to read it. Unable to throw it away. Finally he got to a place where he could read it. I got a call from him several years later, reporting several years of sobriety. Anyway, wonderful story and thanks for sharing it. Hang tough.

This book helped me through what I call "my second conversion". Many Wendell Berry references in it.
