Shane, I think this thread has been remarkably civil compared to many that pop up on these election years. It has wandered this way and that, but i think everyone can agree that anything spirited was earnestly meant in the spirit of friendship.
The Cantina is a sticky place. it is indeed a club house of sorts. It's a place for off topic things to be discussed, concerns to be vented, and joys to be expressed. We have to watch some of the political stuff just for the simple fact that we DO have a political forum for political stuff to go in that is moderated with fair rules by very good mods. I understand the desire to sit around the cracker barrel and discuss current events with buddies. And, I know that labeling something as "political" can be a slippery fish.
We have to play by the set rules. We are guests in Spark's house, and we should be gracious for even having the Cantina. Yangdu, Ted, and I try to keep this place going as best we can as to what Uncle Bill, Rusty, and all the other mods in years past would have liked. But even we don't have all the answers all the time.
A good rule of thumb, Political stuff goes in political. If it is close or questionable, post it here as long as it instills discussion and is not a post and run hatchet job for or against something obnoxious. If it is deemed to be out of the element of the Cantina, I have no problem moving it or asking a Super Mod for some help.
This place can stay open and free, yet still follow the house rules if we observe the Golden Rule as well.
