2nd Annual Knife Hunter Big Buck Contest! Winner is Izhmash!

A 358 or 375 would put him down. I've been known to use both. The Texas heart shot is properly placed at the base of the tail with the target facing straight away. A better placement for that scenario (quartering away) would be at the base of the neck, if the bullet didn't have the sectional density and velocity or sheer inertia to reach the vitals in the chest cavity, which most I use would. I've done it on hogs in the open, never on deer.

I poached that (the pic—not the buck :D) off the King Ranch website…

We’re wintering on the southern Texas coast, and my wife informed me she’s hosting a reunion of some girlfriends for three days in early January here at our rental, and that I’m invited to seek quarters elsewhere. Thought I’d take advantage and maybe scoot over to the King for a hunt, so was perusing their website for opportunities when I came across that pic. I was too late to get in for a hunt, but for anyone who’s never been on the website, there’s a bunch of neat stuff there.
