Hi Larry,I've got a very early Delrin handle 8OT with 17 matchstrikes..they were the first I believe after the elusive and short lived bone handle version..
G'day Ken, the very earliest have the longest extended back swedge <up and along the top> which is the easiest way to tell....the 17 matchstrike together with the 8OT to reverse of course...I'll have to dig mine out,the earliest came in lighter brown faux wood box with gold hinge followed by dark brown with gold hinge box...I do have photos on my corner...I also have the 1963 Safari Set which had an early 8OT plus the Schrade Walden 138L <L for leather> Bowie Hunter fixed blade, all contained in brown hinged box...trust this helps..
