2OT's or 8OT's

I've got a very early Delrin handle 8OT with 17 matchstrikes..they were the first I believe after the elusive and short lived bone handle version..

Hi Larry,
How do you date an early 8OT, when you say you have a "very early" Delrin handle 8OT? I have some early 8OTs, one is in a small Brown Box, one in a biger Brown Box - I have them in tubes, and one is in a hinged Brown Box. I would like a bone handled 8OT... Ken

G'day Ken, the very earliest have the longest extended back swedge <up and along the top> which is the easiest way to tell....the 17 matchstrike together with the 8OT to reverse of course...I'll have to dig mine out,the earliest came in lighter brown faux wood box with gold hinge followed by dark brown with gold hinge box...I do have photos on my corner...I also have the 1963 Safari Set which had an early 8OT plus the Schrade Walden 138L <L for leather> Bowie Hunter fixed blade, all contained in brown hinged box...trust this helps..

Larry,
I have quite a number of the old 8OT knives with the match-strike and 8OT on the reverse, most of them came in tubes.
My boxed knife came in a light brown faux wooden box with two gold hinges and paper-work.
The paper-work reads “Handmade...hand-honed and edged, the blades are made of fine hardened and tempered cutlery steel. The Meerschaum bone handle makes “The Old-Timer” a practical gift for a distinguished gentleman.”
The handle is the same as all the 8OT knives I have, looks the same to me 1970-2004... Ken.

....and what about the swedge on each Ken....have a look and you will see the distinct differences through the years...
