Were 11 hours into our 16 hour drive to Dallas. Damn its a long drive.

FUN! long hauls like that are always interesting. I have driven from one side of the country to the other, and the absolute worst traffic I ever hit was in Dallas Texas. Have fun and be safe Todd!

they got something going on here in town today with the guns with blank rounds, read something on it on FB, I live down the street from location. Might just take a ride to see if I can see the action...

Even if i WAS a doctor, handing me lube after pulling your pants down would still be inappropriate. :D

I can't help it, I have a medical condition. My legs rub as walk it gets uncomfortable. I also can't help that you find me so attractive that you went _there_ when i pulled my pants down :D we still cool tho no-homo

There was something similar sounding up here last week. ARMY was doing some urban combat drills / training.

That is interesting! The local police force/sheriff here does active shooter drills at all of the local schools in an attempt to be prepared. The last one was at the school a block away and I took the kids down there to see. Quite the spectacle. Full swat team/folks in military garb, blank rounds, simulated explosions, and actors playing wounded etc etc. They put out flyers a week before explaining it all, kinda neat.

We got something like that going on here in St. Louis too!

That's pretty disturbing, actually.

I can understand that. At first when they explained what was going on via the flier drop I was a little wigged out. I actually ended up calling and speaking with the guy who was in charge later about it and had a nice little conversation with him. It kinda breaks down into training should something happen, but also awareness of all the local schools. Of course they did it when no one was in school, and all that but after I thought about it for awhile I was completely fine with it. And when I say I took my kids down to see, we went to see all the firetrucks, ambulances, police cars, etc etc, "the spectacle" lol. The police here in town are super nice which is sometimes a quality that is hard to find.

I think it's pretty cool. Kids see the protection they can expect, to some degree. Also could help keep them from panicking.
Besides, as the old baseball theory is: you play like you practice.

Neko loves ice... and he loves peanut butter... So i put them together LOL... I been making him peanut butter Popsicles. He loves them, he will spend a good half hour straight licking one. I normally give them to him when i want to keep him busy for a little bit or when its real hot. I just take a nice big scoop of peanut butter and put it in about 8 ounces of water and nuke it in the microwave so the PB and water mix in real well then i freeze it till its solid.. Lots of the PB mixture sinks to the bottom, which is great because when i flip it over the mostly ice part touches the bowl/plate/ground and the PB ice is on top for him to lick on.

I just find it a little odd that we're continually being conditioned to accept increasing militarization on our streets and even in our schools as being not only normal, but "neat".

*shrug*

This.

I think its sad that we are at the point of needing it, but the fact is there have been so many incidents in schools already that it is becoming a major concern. Preparing for the worse is the only way to be ready when it happens.

I understand both sides of it. But id rather they be ready if something ever happens at MY kids school.

They don't have blueprints to study? They can't do a dry run when the school is closed? They have to make a spectacle of it? What's that cost the city/county? Of course you realize a lot of that money comes from federal/Homeland Security "grants", and if they don't burn it up this year they won't get their $$$$ next year. Once this kinda thing starts, it never seems to go away.

I dunno, I never understood a lot of that stuff. When I was in school there were a couple bomb threats. So they packed us all up and had us assemble in the gym each time, instead of getting the hell out like a normal fire drill. Now if it had been for real, don'tcha think the bad guy would figure that out and put the bomb in the gym?

My wife makes "pup-sicles" for the dogs every once in a while. I know it involves hot dogs and the blender, then the liquid is frozen in an ice cube tray. I can get the complete recipe if anyone is interested.

As a retired military guy, I do think training is cool, but militarization of the police is not a good thing. As you may recall, I just got back from my Mom's funeral/memorial service which was held about a half hour south of St. Louis. Fortunately, it was nowhere near the festivities in Ferguson. Had some interesting conversations with my brother-in-law, who happens to be the Sheriff of a county in the northwest part of the state (that I will not name to respect his privacy...he said he already has to deal with one or two lawsuits every week...). He is very pro-Second Amendment and not a fan of militarizing police forces as a routine policy. Prior to being elected, he had served as a paramedic as well as duty with several different LEO departments (police, state trooper, deputy sheriff). He said that he prefers no link between the vehicle license and the CCW permit, and Missouri has taken steps to cut the link if I understood correctly. He personally doesn't want that fact to come up when LEO's run license plates....he wants his deputies to assume that everyone is armed and be appropriately cautious...and thinks that all honest citizens have a right to be armed whenever and wherever. He believes felons should pretty much be locked up and the key thrown away. I suppose he would admit that a few people turn a new leaf, but the very vast majority just keep offending.

I'll have to look around at availability. I want something fairly easy to buy bullets for, and I'll take the .30-06 or something entirely different should I end up in big bear or moose land - or stay indoors - especially around bears.

Short of .243 Winchester, the 7mm-08 is probably the most common in that general class.

...And another thing....

I am somewhat peeved with the evolving definition, at least here in the US, of the term "civilian." Based on international law, a civilian is a non-combatant, or someone not a member of the armed forces or militia. In contrast, here in the US, police and firefighting forces are also considered to not be civilians. While I greatly respect both professions, and have family members in both, I regard them as being in public service, not the military, and they are therefore civilians.

Rant over. Thank you.

Of course, it also prepares we, the people for the look and feel of a police state. You know, should that ever be a thing.
