So I'm thinking about putting together a new AR style rifle.

Anybody have any experience with the 300 blackout? What is your impression of the round?

Doc

I really like it! I've got more than one AR and a single shot HandiRifle in that caliber. Weaponeer (who mostly lurks here...doesn't post much) got me interested in it a couple years ago and we've both built several ARs in 300BLK. I shot my first feral pig with a 30BLK AR using 150 grain pointed soft points. With that load, it is pretty much the ballistic equivalent of the .30-30 or 7.62X39 Russian for all practical purposes. The advantage of the AR platform over these two is the ease of mounting scopes, lights and other gear that help with pig hunting at night.

I've not used subsonic ammo for hunting since all but the most expensive are said to be hit-or-miss when it comes to expansion, but shooting subsonic with a suppressor at the range is a ton of fun also.

I hunger!

We got something like that going on here in St. Louis too!

.....I'm not even sure what to say about that. How close is Ferguson?

They don't have blueprints to study? They can't do a dry run when the school is closed? They have to make a spectacle of it? What's that cost the city/county? Of course you realize a lot of that money comes from federal/Homeland Security "grants", and if they don't burn it up this year they won't get their $$$$ next year. Once this kinda thing starts, it never seems to go away.

I dunno, I never understood a lot of that stuff. When I was in school there were a couple bomb threats. So they packed us all up and had us assemble in the gym each time, instead of getting the hell out like a normal fire drill. Now if it had been for real, don'tcha think the bad guy would figure that out and put the bomb in the gym?

JT, logic has no place when it comes to paranoia....

I always liked the motto: "To Protect and Serve". Doesn't always seem that way, though most of the time it probably is. We've had a drill or two here, but they are emergency preparedness drills, more centered around hurricanes (which we experience now and then) and the Seabrook Nuclear Plant (about 15 miles from here). To me that makes sense, as these (especially the hurricane scenario) are MUCH more likely to occur and would require the participation of ALL emergency service personnel as well as police.

Long time no snark bro :D

I just ate a peanut butter oreo.

Yummy!!

One of my kids favorite sandwich snacks is when i toast some bread then spread PB on both slices and slice up some marshmallows on top then sprinkle ground cinnamon on top of it all... Then i put the sandwich in the toaster oven and melt the PB and marshmallows. Its quite delicious.

When I was in school, we had "atomic bomb attack drills" Hide under your desk... Like that would have helped. Used to do the same thing for Tornadoes.. That could help.

I was born too late for the A-bomb drills, but my parents talked about how pointless they were. "Fireball coming, cover yourself in kindling".

For tornadoes, they always moved us to inside hallways with no windows, which makes sense. They'd also pick a couple kids to run around the school and crack open windows, supposedly to prevent rapid pressure changes and breaking glass. I'm not sure if that's really helpful or not, but I was always proud to selected for the task. Made me feel important.

It occurs to me now that they were probably hoping to get rid of me... blown apart by an exploding window or sucked away off to Oz somewhere. Bastards. :grumpy:

Now that you mention it, the tornado drills depended on the school configuration. I was in a couple of different schools. In the ones that halls, we did move into them. The ones that were separate classrooms had outdoor walkways. In those, we hid under the desks... Woohoo!

I guess it was better than nothing.

The A-bomb drills were just stupid. They used to show us a film showing the destruction of a town kind of close to ground zero of an atomic blast. It wiped out everything. Even as a grade schooler, I used to think that hiding under the desk was pointless, since we lived pretty close to the airbase which at one point was a SAC base.

Yeah, it's hard to fathom why they even bothered.

My personal nuclear war drill is to open a bottle of bourbon and drain it ASAP. I'm only about 30 miles from Oak Ridge, so doing anything else would be essentially pointless.

I call shenanigans! I have no proof that you are in fact a live!

I just ate a peanut butter oreo.
How was it? I have seen a TON of variations at the store lately, peanut butter, birthday cake, oops, all chocolate, all vanilla, I dunno what all else... I think even a mint creme at one point.

Long time no snark bro :D
