3 Favorite HOG folders?

engineerciv- Thanks man. The Combat Troodon sounds too big!
Thanks gang. And thanks for all the pix.
For me, my SnG gets the most pocket time. It's just such a great folder design.

Wonder what my three might be...:D

Anyway...I see some of you have a Troodon ...mine broke a spring and is a paperweight...if anybody has a bit I can borrow for the funky screws please PM me.

N2K^ Get that Troodon fixed.
I love mine although she's starting to act up?!

carry this ever since i got it

those grayman folders look intersting - but how about their ergonomics?

Nice folder! ^
I am really looking forwards to my Crusader Forge, 1 year wait, and my Fairly Folder.

I would love to try out a Grayman Dua!

I noticed a lot of Spydercos on here. While I love the Lum designs, I am much too abusive for most. I have broken every Spyderco I have owned. I would like to know what makes the choices "The Ones" for everybody.

Here are my current picks and reasons for picking them:

1. Grayman Dua:

-Blade - It is stout enough to be a workhorse, yet cuts well enough for my particular EDC tasks. The slight recurve gives the blade character. The tip is very solid and I am a big fan of spear points.

-Ergos / Design - The Dua contours to my hand (size Medium) better than any other folding knife I've owned, used or fondled. The jimping is just right and it covers much of the knife. I am able to get exceptional purchase on the blade in any grip.

It won't win a beauty pageant, but it looks just fine to me. The Stonewash scratches caused by the stonewashing are longer than on other blades that I've seen and hides wear very well.

-Fit & Finish - it has many well thought out mechanical design features (pivot bushing, tang radiused around stop pin, geometry and size of lockface, etc.) that make the lockup as solid as possible, the action very fast and buttery smooth.

It feels as solid as a brand new CRK and more solid than my 5 year old Umnum. It is smooth in the sense that after disengaging the lockbar and giving the blade a little nudge, it closes on its own, which I prefer.

The price to performance ratio is incredible, especially being that Grayman is run by two great people, Mike & Sue.

TAD Dauntless:
The Dauntless is incredibly well manufactured. It has rock solid lock up even after a lot of heavy use, has great action and is nearly as smooth as a CRK. The Ergos are very good and I like the looks of the knife a lot. It has a perfect deep carry pocket clip.

While I could do without the choil, it does provide great purchase on the blade and allows for more grip options, especially for finer tasks. While pillar standoffs are my preference, I actually think that the geared G-10 back-spacer gives greater control to the Dauntless. It surprises me that the Dauntless is not a highly sought after blade. I believe they run for $300 and I consider that a bargain.

For anyone interested, TAD does raffles where they have the very best custom knife makers create their take on the Dauntless and raffle the opportunity to buy the knife. I actually won the raffle for a one-off custom Dauntless. After buying the Dauntless, I bought some of their clothing and it is exceptional.

Spyderco Tuff:
Because when angry you can stab it through hard materials, such as street signs or car doors. I would not recommend doing this to anyone, especially without heavy duty gloves. It's potentially illegal and highly unsafe. Although the lockup is still solid, the lock did fail on me while stabbing it into wood as hard as possible (I was having a bad day and took it out on my Tuff and a street sign that I found.) I keep my Tuff in my BOB as a backup blade.

As far as Spyderco quality, I've found that the blades manufactured in Taichung, Taiwan have great Fit and Finish and are built exceptionally well for the price, especially when compared to other knives from the big production companies in that price range. For example, the Domino is one of my most carried knives and has been used more than any of my ZTs, almost every one of my ZTs now has lock rock or another issue. I don't baby my Domino, either. Spyderco did a great job with their steel choice and heat treat; CTS-XHP is an excellent steel.

The fact that the Tuff survived the heavy abuse that I threw at it and has no damage is definitely a testament to the build quality of the Taichung Spydercos. On the other hand, many of the Golden, Colorado Spydercos I have owned did not have great F&F or build quality, often out of the box or after minimal use. I am admittedly a bit of a steel snob and I like that Spyderco seems to offer the most selection of steels of probably any knife company (don't quote me.)

With a few exceptions, all of my folders have been my favorites at one time or another. I'm not saying that I'm fickle, I'm saying that I buy the folders that I think that I'll like and the ones that I dislike get sold or given away. I've parted with some of the knives that I thought I'd love (XM-18s because they did not deploy to my standards) and kept some of the knives that I got as gifts (Cryo, mostly because of the 2.5" blade limit in the city where I live (not for much longer) and because it's a beater.)

I picked the three in my post because they are incredibly well made and dependable knives. I also wanted to show options for well-built hard-use folders other than CRKs and Hinderers.

Next up - a Frag Curtiss F3 3.5" with Blue hardware.

I rotate between a few.

Our very own Gerber Blades (Bill Koenig) made an auto, the Atrox. It has been getting a massive amount of pocket time. In place of my Severtech, it has dominated all auto needs!!!

Then I pocket my Spyderco Southard, and a variety of Cold Steels.....Voyager series, while I prefer the older ones, the new XL clip and Tanto get a lot of pocket time while on the water. Also Brous Blades Division Flipper also gets a bit of pocket time while.

I dunno... 3 favorites of the day... Someone help me out here! :D

Nice assortment of folders, gang.
Jaxx... Well I'll be darn. omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like traditional styles as well as tactical:

Customs--
Kit Carson small M4 in Stellite 6K, carbon fiber
Bailey Bradshaw self-lock, S30V & stag

Production--
SnG DGG
CQC7
Spydie Native

And I've enjoyed traditional Case folding hunters for decades, even better with their "new" edge geometry. Also like the Copperlock & mini.

Surprised the Rat Trap didn't make anyone's cut here. Significance?
