If you could have any 3 knives in a wooded area in a cold climate what would those three knives be but those knives have to fall into theses catagories...

knife #1 any blade size bigger than 6"

knife #2 blade siz between 4" and 6"

knife #3 blade size between 2" and 4"

AND NO AXES I KNOW THEY WOULD BE PRIME SUBJECTS IN THESE CONDITIONS!!!

I dont have any of these knife but this is what im getting for x-mas

#1 Busse Game Warden
#2 Chris Reeves Shadow IV
#3 Fallkniven A1

what do you think of my list???

looks good...I think the ideal combo would be a SAK for your small blade, a mora for your mediu blade, and any of yoru favorite larger fixed blades...that would work great as a trio in the woods!

I personaly don't think a mora can be depended on with your life ya there nice knifes for cheap but WITH YOUR LIFE!

If you have three knives than a mora which in this case would only be used for small tasks like carving and cutting would be fine. I own a couple and I have full confidence in them to do what they are meant to do.

In a three knive senario I agree 100%. I have many different mora's now and when it comes to wood working, food prep, and skinning they are simply awesome.

My choices:

Tramontina Machete/Camp tramp (whichever I feel like, usually the camp tramp)
mora 2000/carbon clipper (anymore the clipper is my favorite)
OHT

well the 3 knives are so if you happen to loose your primary big knife you have something that would replace it equaly or as much as possible (the medium blade.)

ok heres a sitiuation to help you---your in the lower part of canada but still really cold. you have the 3 knives of any kind its pouring down rain if you did drop your knife no way of finding it.

and if you had to do everything with just a mora and a small blade its going to pe pretty bad if your mora fails after weeks of use and the preveuse use you did with it as home. ive seen some pictures to that show a very thin tang i dont know if thats on all their models but that thin metal isnt going to be ideal for survival...

There are many people that could survive longer with that cheap Mora than most could with the latest greatest high dollar end-all-be-all survival knife.

Remember, you can't "buy" skill. Knives are just tools. Without practice, you might as well have wooden sword.

Honestly in a real 'survival' situation you would be lucky to have that folder in your pocket. Unless of course you walk around with 3 knives on you at all times? In my opinion tools (Knives) are all about durability, effeciency and versitility. Having 3 fixed blades doesn't do a whole lot except for take up weight IMHO.

Sorry, but I would own/carry a handaxe/hatchet long before I would own/carry a large knife, especially for my geography.

*Gransfors Bruks wilderness hatchet, or the Wetterlings 16" hunters axe

*My Mora #510 would do(Yes I'd trust it with my LIFE), but most likely I'd like to make a knife I have in mind. Just waiting to have the time and money to make it. What I have in mind would be nearly 4", O-1, drop/spear point, scandi grind blade with a handle of NS bolster, leather and burch bark spacers, wide antler spacer, and either ironwood or curly birch, shaped to an aesthetically pleasing shape that I have finally got drawn out the way I like.

*Case Small Texas Jack in CV and amber bone.

Most likely I wouldn't have the axe on me in a servival situation anyways, unless I got lost while backpacking, 'cause I only take it for camping, so if I'm away from camp, or not planning on camping, I wouldn't have it on me. I do however, always carry my mora, when I leave civilization, and I always carry either a pocket knife or my leatherman every single day.

If I was in the lower part of Canada in rain, with those three tools, I think I would be quite comfortable. If I lost the axe, I still think I'd be comfortable, just have to work a little harder's all.

I am new to this forum what dose IMHO mean???

ya but nice knives cant hurt but may be take up weight...

thats easy
#1 busse battle misstress
#2 busse badger attack tactical
#3 swiss champ.
all though i would like a 4th let me explain. i am ambie so i like to use both hands which ever is free so my 4th would be a busse BATAC with SE blade. the carry method is the BM on my back the BATAC in PE on my left the BATAC in se on my right and the sak in a neck sheath. over kill and uncalled for i know but thats what i like. but i feel the 3 listed would get you through about anything for a long period of time. as long as your will to survive is stronge.

I'd prefer my 14 inch fiskars axe to a large knife for my big blade but if you want me to play by the rule I'll take my 12 inch ontario machete, my mora 510 (carbon) and my oldschool leatherman wave...

My "3" that I don't think will be changing for sometime are - SRKW Ratweiler, SRKW HRLM, Swiss champ. I can't think of a scenario that would make me choose otherwise - except maybe a jungle. then I would trade the Ratweiler for a good machete.

Kabar Camp Knife, Mora 2000, Vic Trekker. The mora is a cheap knife in price only and is a better knife to depend on than most knives costing ten times as much.
