3 knife survial pack

I think of multitools and knives as separate categories. Can I add a Leatherman?

That makes sense, I guess. I'm always a little unsure whether a SAK qualifies as a folding knife, or whether it's a multitool plain and simple. Or whether multitools with knife blades count as knives. I'm confused like that. :D

Imalways have a multi-tool like the Gerber or Leatherman but other than mechanics and fishing, I seldom use it. I don't know if I would find it useful in a survival situation. That said, I do have one in my survival kit. :D

As always, Great Pictures.:cool::thumbup:

For true survival.

Something big and quality

Something small and quality

SAK of some kind.

A Mora is not even remotely eligible.

SKam

Ontario RAT 7
Kershaw
Puma Rattler

I would probably trade the Puma for a Leatherman with a saw.

Busse Steel Heart or HI Khukuri
Swamp Rat Howling Rat
Vic Huntsman or Farmer

Frankly speaking, I dont need you need 3 knives.

you just need either knife-multitool combo or axe-multitool combo. It will handle most tasks flawlessly.

Btw, I'm a knife nut but realistically that would be better to have latter or former mentioned.

My choice:

ka-bar heavy bowie with sog para multitool OR

Any hatchet with sog para multitool

I know its a weird combo but just my HO. No offense to anyone.

15" HI AK Khukuri
Tak-1 (or Mora)
Trekker
This is what I would go with in any environment.

1) GearNinja Mach~Axe
2) GearNinja Outdoorsman
3) H. Roselli Carpenter knife or a KJ Eriksson Mora #711
------------------
These are no nonsense blades for real-world tasks versus 'collectability':)

I'd never heard of GearNinja before, search brought this: http://www.gearninja.com/

If that isn't where they come from, its a pretty cool site.

Pictures?

Knives only? Of the stuff I own:

Small: Victorinox Pioneer Farmer or my Case CV Moose

Medium: Either a Mora or my 1980s-vintage Schrade LB7 Bearpaw lockback

Large: Valiant Large Survival Golok

Well seeing as I took these photos yesterday from my survival hipsack that I do carry each time I am away from roads:

CRKT Wrangler

Cold Steel 7" Fillet Knife

Kershaw Outcast

WoodJewelblade.jpg

Wood Jewel Puuko- I just added it so I have not had a chance to put it through its paces but that is why it is here- so I can try it on hikes before I am in a dangerous situation. Besides that I felt like I needed a nonsynthetic handle.
Yes it is a lot of knives but that is what I like and it is comfortable in my pack and I do carry them in the wilds.

If I'm not allowed to use an axe, then I'll go with

RD9
Custom Bush Shiv
SAK Outrider

I LIKE these kinds of threads (because you always change your mind later AND you learn from others)

Wet wooded area eh?

Ontario machete OR Bark River Golok

Bark River Nebula - stainless, sturdy and stays sharp.

Case Medium Stockman in yellow handle for ease of view OR SAK Pioneer with that useful saw. Both knives are light and have a number of blades within size or tools, stainless too.

Ah, SAK must qualify as a pocket knife or folder (some of which have tools) SWISS ARMY KNIFE after all:D And a very useful and inexpensive item too:thumbup:

either combo;

DogFather, SS4, Sak (It's a knife, it's in the Name!)

or
DogFather, Mora2000, Sak Champion plus

I know the DF has a lot weight to be carrying around all day,
but it sure does a lot and I'd go as far as I could with it.

wooded area in a cold climate ----

How cold?? Snowing or too cold to snow??

Your Reeves handle will get too cold to touch(use) without gloves...without risking Frostbite from the exposed metal.

(as would a lot of my knives as well)

If it's very cold--say below 20 Degrees ---and I had to choose 3.....

#1:I would go with some type of enclosed handle(BattleRat/Camp Tramp, etc) or G10 handled knife that could chop/build shelters(as you said this was a Survival situation-not a camping trip)

#2:the Siegle knife on the right -second from the bottom

(as I could avoid touching the brass guard if I lost my gloves)

A Howling Rat would be great as well in that regard.

#3:This Scott Gossman PSK
