300 SN Flipper

I'm going to get one but the first thing I'm going to do is take it apart and dye the scales.

Why brown Benchamde why?!?!?!?!

I believe it was in the comments section of a YouTube video that the designer, Mr Ball explained that when the prototype was made, he was making knives for our deployed troops overseas and brown G10 was what he had on hand. That's why he used it.

Let me be more clear. I like the looks of them, and I am sure they are of the quality we all have come to expect from BM. I am thinking about getting one, I just wondered why they dont seem to get much airtime so to speak.

Judging by what little I know, apparently a whole lot of people like it. THANKS for stating your opinion knifegunfighter,we all know your opinion now.LOL

I was put off Benchmade knives a couple of years ago, I picked up one of these and I love it. It fits my hand like it was made for it. It has me looking at their knives seriously again.

Well, the complaints I have heard are:
to fat
to wide
to heavy
it's a tweener, not really a small knife and not really a big knife
it's ugly
the mechanics of the axis lock don't make for a good flipper

Personally I think it is a good looking knife. I really don't care if it is a flipper or not. It is kind of an overbuilt small knife. I love the ergonomics, the feel and the look of the knife.

Well, I see the specs and I think I can handle the fat, wide, heavy, and tweener. And I know it's not as ugly as anything Kershaw or Spyderco have made in the past 5 years :)
I've never owned a flipper, and I collect mostly autos, so wondering why the mechanics don't make for a good flipper (perceived or real).

This is my favorite knife. EDC it every day. It is too thick, but I deal with it for the ease of the combination of flipper action with axis locking. If it was thinner and longer it would be perfect, or just put a flipper on the Griptilian. Seriously, a G10 Fliptilian would sell like hot cakes. I really don't understand anyone that would prefer a liner or frame lock. In fact, it is my mission as a newbie to the knife community to convince knife makers to get away from such locks. It's a shame that so many people counter it with demands for them.

This knife is not terrible however there are a few things that probably would have made it a even more liked knife. A lot of people love the size, but for at least my hands it is a little small. Also I don't like that there is not a choil to choke up on the blade. The Axis/Flipper combo is not too bad. It's an awesome concept featuring some of the most popular features in knives right now. The action is not great though, I cannot flip the knife out with ease without sacrificing a little bit of blade play. Also the G10 is cool but the pattern they put in it sucks, it does not show the layering of very well. I put a new pattern in my 300SN then when I was bored with that, I made some new scales.

In the end, I find myself carrying the knife more often now. I really like the axis/flipper combo, even if it was not carried out well. Not terrible for the price, could be better but worth trying.

I think I'm going to have to add this to my acquisition list. I had thought it was flipper and assisted, which had led me to avoid it. If it isn't assisted, then I think it would be a great knife. And I'm thinking the "mechanical shortcomings" of the flip with axis can be overcome with technique modifications. Maybe. Guess I'll have to find out.

BTW, like those zombie green scales, and especially the texturing. I'd love to see how you textured the original scales.

I have never owned a non-assisted flipper until now, so I don't pretend to know about the mechanics of how they are supposed to work. If you watch my video in my review you can see I can flip it out using the flipper with pretty little effort.

The flipper works great in the winter when you are wearing gloves and using a thumb stud isn't possible.

And love the green scales.

Yeah, I saw that. Nicely done video. It was that video where I realized it isn't assisted, and made me interested in it.

Well, I ordered one, and can't wait for it to get here. I'm pretty excited for sure. I started this thread, and wasn't expecting to find so much feedback on this at all. Thanks guys.

You mentioned in the video that you carry it on your belt. Could you post a pic of how you are carrying it? The way you said it implied that you aren't carrying it in a pouch. Or it did to me.

I think the 300 is a great knife concept, but it's too short. I have medium sized hands and my last finger falls off the end. It is built like a hard use knife, which is great, but the length is a problem (for me) with this design.

Well I got mine in yesterday. It was a lot smaller than I was expecting, But still really nice. I like this knife! It's built like a tank. It definitely has earned itself a spot in the rotation.
