#35 Beer and Sausage Bar Tool Knife

They seem to be doing more weak pulls lately, I've got a 97 Beavertail that I just compared side to side with a SAK, and the pull on that great big 97 and the action to break it from open to swing closed, is weaker than the SAK. That is a sad state of design and execution...I also compared a 2017 Appaloosa 81 moose which to me had weak pulls, and that one is about on par with the SAK, which I find acceptable, but not ideal. can't please everyone all the time and all that, but I hope they pay more attention to the actual workings of the knives, over aesthetics and kitsch going forward.

Obviously didn't get a 23. Those were nail breaking stiff.

The lighter pulls are because the blade and spring are thinner than the Maher & Grosh more than anything else and I think some of the reason for the excess oil and grit is due to it getting held between the times of the comb.

Pics taken and back in the tube I don't think I need two but I want this ebony! The walk n talk is wayyyyy nicer on my micarta.

The walk and talk on my micarta is actually really nice- with the exception of the comb being lite. All 3 blades actually snap to half stop and snap even better from half to open.

I would be disappointed if it was anything like my 97- which has to be an all time low in blade function for a GEC (even though people say it’s “historically accurate”, if felt horrible and darn near took some moderate shaking to open).

Now I’m anxious to get my ebony. I hope it’s as nice as my micarta.

I refuse to believe the story that these are historically accurate, unless Bill has a bunch of knives with improperly heat treated springs in his collection. The 97 run is an absolute fail in my eye with such a weak spring as to make the knife akin to a friction folder.

I’m starting to get annoyed when I pull out my Beer and Sausage from my pocket and there’s two or three beard hairs inside it.

look carefuly, maybe these are hairs... just sayin :p:D:mad:

First post in this thread as I was a consistent observer until I got a Beer and Sausage in hand. Saw all the speculation and then likes or dislikes once members received their knife. I really like this knife and it could be the complete oddity it is (to me anyways) but I really enjoy it. So much so I had to use the caplifter on a twist off top

Yes, weaker pulls on the BRR but satisfactory on other two blades:thumbsup:

Enjoying a summer shandy on a 72 degree day while on my deck. Off now till Tuesday, enjoy the weekend everyone:)

I don’t know about that. My 97 is awesome. It has weaker pull, sure, but the spring isnt that weak. You’re just exaggerating to make the point that you are disappointed in the weaker pulls on the 97.

These sure look nice, but does anyone else feel like the build quality is quite far below what’s come out in the past? I’m sat here comparing the pull, blade play, gapping, etc. with other runs I have from last year namely the 93, 92, 86, etc. I find that these just ‘feel’ lower quality, as well as coming with way more grit grime and oil than anything I’ve seen out of GEC in the past.

Nope. The ones I've received, other than the excessive oil have been perfect.

I'd be willing to ship it to you so you can asses it for yourself, I stand by what I have written about it.

On topic, these Beer and Sausage knives seem very photogenic. Really digging the covers, especially the ebony.

Very nice, fellas! I'm hoping to find one - ideally in Ebony. Still a couple places that have yet to list them so there may be some hope.

That said, the jigged bone looks really nice too.

The large coke bottle (or swell center Hunter) has become a pattern of great interest to me.

My observations thus far have been that like with any pattern throughout history, the pulls aren't necessarily going to be consistently the same - especially when manufactured by different cutlery firms. I've had the opportunity to handle a lot of old ones and yes, many have light pulls but most of them had been used pretty hard.

I recently picked one up that is likely 100+ years old and the pull on it is very similar to the recent run of 23s. It definitely overshadows the 97s I've handled up this point as they are distinctly lighter but I've also had good success with flushing them - it returns a good snap to them.

This Continental is a veritable bear trap by comparison though.
