#35 Beer and Sausage Bar Tool Knife

No sausage, but it worked great on the Stella...... also, no blade play on my ebony.

I like the taste of Stella... good stuff. I’m am not getting any play in my ebony eitherimage.jpg

I’ve had a couple of days to think about it and I’m still not sure trading my Ebony B&S for a BF #86 was a wise decision. I still have the jigged bone one but to me the Ebony was the most attractive and had the best fit and finish of the three. On the other hand, the BF 86 is right there with my Waynorth #86 which IMHO was the best of the run until I got the BF knife. Time will tell. :)View attachment 1428515

86 is a better knife

Nah, you done good to score that unicorn in trade for a turd...

That's all very funny, I believe the 2019 was a wasted opportunity to make a "special" knife instead of a boring black one. Especially since a black straight edge knife (waynorth's lambsfoot) was in the works at the time.
However, I just simply traded my 86 bf knife off for something I liked better and moved on. I know that I didn't visit the 86 thread several times a week to complain about it.

Please show us on the doll where the knife hurt you!

:)

Agreed, the emotional upset some folks continue to display is puzzling. It's just a knife. You didn't like this one, move on with your life. Eventually your (model) number will come up and you can get the one you want.

I honestly had no interest in this knife, but with all the bad press figured I should get one to see what all the fuss is about - I guess that was my dreaded FOMO kicking in;) I'm glad I did, it's a cool knife and the covers are beautiful. If I didn't have an early morning road trip tomorrow I would properly break it in on some nice Sam's Octoberfest this evening but I'm sure I'll get to it on Friday. This is likely my last GEC purchase of the year, unless I stumble upon a Micarta 74 much like I stumbled upon this one, so I'm going to enjoy it.

My second B&S #35 Autumn Leaf bone knife came in today. It was a little darker than the first one. I let my cool neighbor pick the one he liked the most. I wanted the darker one and he picked the lighter one. He combed his beard and laughed his behind off. He told me that it will be a user , if I don't mind. I pulled an ebony-wood #35 B&S out of my Brownells heavy canvas pouch bag. I had 5, now 4 #35s in the pouch. The ebony-wood #35 B&S is patinard out. It's going look like this one and he laughed again. I showed him pictures of the GEC#23 two blade Pioneer Trapper Woodland Micarta knife. I think he is hooked on GEC. I will never sell or trade a knife in my life. But I love to give one away to the deserving. Today was fun for me and more fun for him too.

Just snagged an ebony version off BHQ! Hoping it will have more standard walk/talk for GEC compared to my jigged bone. Still need to flush out the jigged bone version, but it just isn't quite as satisfying as usual. No REAL complaints though.

I noticed their jigged bone version, sold out shortly after the ebony, was only a few bucks more expensive vs. the ~30-40 extra that I paid at another retailer. Guess I didn't realize some retailers were marking them up more than others. But definitely made a mental note of that. Not going to "shame" the other one, but I thought that was a positive thing for BHQ to do.

Got my jigged bone today and the pulls on the blade and fork are noticeably stronger than my ebony version. The beard comb however is far worse; on my ebony I can tell it has a half stop (Even though it’s still fairly weak) and will actually snap close if assisted. My new bone version isn’t even close and will not pop into any position even after a good flushing with oil.

It was a neat idea, but I think GEC kind of dropped the ball on the comb, if it’s not too expensive I think I’m going to look into getting it removed. The rest of the knives: covers, blade, fork, caplifter- I really do enjoy.

I still don't get it. It's a comb. When you're done with it, close it with your hand, using your opposable thumb if necessary. Not snapping into place seems so unimportant...

I’m with you Dave on this, mine are the same but as already mentioned the spring and comb itself was made so much thinner because it doesn’t need to be used as hard as the blade or cap lifter fork does

The only one of the three that had snap in the comb was the Ebony. The other two had no snap so I gave a the springs a bath of CLP and after working the tools all the grit came out and both the combs will snap close from 20 degrees the other two snap better too. Worth a try.

My ebony arrived today, much better in hand than the pictures!
Glad I scored one it will be a fun knife to have. Victorinox was my first love in the 80’s. I am sure mine looks like the others ebony versions already posted, I did have a pin with mine also, thought that was cool. Used to collect hat pins when I was young. Plenty of oil on it, busy week will mess with it this weekend.
