$35 or less folder

Don't think they got Walmarts in Netherlands.

Have you considered a knife kit? you can get some good single lock blade folders for under $35.00. And becouse they are not a assemled knife, you might not have problems with customs. Try; www.knifekits.com

Ka-Bar Doizer, 20 bucks can not beat that. It is the best deal out there. If not that one do yourself a favor and look again at the Spyderco Native

Have you looked a Fallkniven U2 Lockback.
It is made in the EU, so the price might be normal at 60 bucks.

It might be too small for you, but it is a fine knife.

You may consider a Spyderco Native like this one at the bottom of my picture. It's got S30V steel. I've seen this knife at WalMart for $36.00... (I usually don't shop at WalMart).

Your kidding, cheapest I can get it here is $105  and then only the black one.

Saw another cool knife; the Kershaw Skyline with the same steel as the Junkyard dog and the Needs work.
Seems its brand new, just read a post on this forum asking when its due to ship.
Even the Kershaw site does not have info on the steel type and size.
Oddly enough I can order one from one of the Dutch stores I'm checking out.

I'm looking for a review and a picture of the knife in closed position.

Thanks for helping :), but I don't like the looks of the knife.
The blade looks to "classic" if you know what I mean, and to thin.

I narrowed it down to:
Kershaw Junkyard
Kershaw Needs Work
Benchmade Mini Ambush Pardue
Kershaw Skyline
Ka-bar Dozier Small hunter

Of all the knives I found these have the best looks and size, and are within my price range and have good steel.
But can't say I really like the looks on any of these so I'm probably just going to buy the Boker Trance BO590 I was already planning, and a Byrd Starling. :( :o

I guess you don't have Wal Marts in Holland. Over here, they do carry the Spyderco Native in S30V for $39.48 (in black), far cheaper than any place on the internet.

What about Puma's newer designs, like the 'Sportec'? I bought one over here, admittedly 'on closeout' at a local store for ~$28. It's a well made lockback with a decent blade - of their non-desript 'Solingen steel' - but 'Made in Germany'. It is quite decent, mechanically, and sharp. The blade is ~3" (75mm), while overall it is just less than 8" extended (<200mm), or 4 3/8" (~110 mm) closed, with a metal and manmade handle. They even have an inexpensive Damascus bladed line, too - should be fairly priced over there.

I noted that you were set on a trance and some other knife, which you seemed to want to look good. So, is it possible you're looking for a gentleman's knife and a ugly/tactical user? Or, would you be happy with a knife that was a good combination of the two? That might give more flexibility in terms of the kinds of knives you'd like to get, if you defined it that way. You could easily pick an opinel for a cheap gentleman's folder, and then use the money left over from not getting the boker trance to put it towards a very solid knife, a level or two up from what you've been looking at. Believe me, the step up is worth it. Having a knife with S30V or VG10 makes you feel a lot more comfortable that you have a "good steel", and allows you to experiment with others because you at least have one knife with "good taste". Enduras and delicas seem to be going for around 80 euros, you might be able to get it a little cheaper, and an opinel should be cheap. I'll tell you, I once bought an Endura3 when I really wanted the Benchmade 710; there was a $60 price difference. I got the endura3, was not really happy with it, lost it, and then got the 710. Couldn't be happier, and was able to enjoy my E4 wave in a way I couldn't have before, and haven't lost either (except for the original 710 being stolen by the airport ). Get a cheap opinel, it's good steel, and then save the bucks for what you really want. If possible, 1 good knife> 2 not as good ones.

I posted the following in anotherdiscussion (gift for father) and it is very appropriate here as well:

A truly great quality at a very affordable price is offered by the Browning Ice storm series. They are made for Browning by the excellent Japanese brand Mcusta and are actually, except for the colour of the handle, identical to their Katana series, the blade steel is the same as well. It is also similar to the Stingray series except for the handle inlay.
For example this beautiful one is less than $35 on ebay:

I gave this model to my brother, and I bought for myself the matt-golden one. It is (next to looking like the twin it is) quality wise on the same level as the mcusta stingray which I gave last xmas to my father, and it is a lot cheaper. Strongly recommended!

I already consider the Trance an ugly/tactical user and a gentlemans knife
Ugly/tactical because its ugly :D, and gentleman because its small.
I'm gonna take your advice but with a twist.
The Trance shall be my "good taste" knife (for now), and my second knife will be a cheapass knife with good looks like a Boker Magnum.
I even saw a Rainbow 2 with aus 8 steel for € 9.
A knife I wont be afraid to cut down a tree with or to lend out to my friends and watch them throwing it at the door or using it as a screwdriver ;)

I should add to my recommendation of the Browning that I live in Belgium and my Browning knives nicely slipped through customs. I also recommend to request $12 USPS "global priority envelopes" which are actually big enough for 2 knives and they make the journey quickly and reliably.

It is quite amusing that I import a knife from the USA towards Belgium, which is made in Japan but sold as the American brand Browning, a company which is actually fully owned by a Belgian brand (FN Herstal).

Nice looking knive, good steel to!
The slipping through custom is what worries me, I read some stories on Ebay what happens if your package doesn't slip through, it could get quite expensive.

Do a cost/benefit analysis. What do you think the chances of them seizing it are? What is the benefit the Browning will give you? How about you order a cheap knife in the US, ship it there, and if customs starts to mess with it, just say, "aww, heck with it!"? Seriously, especially if you order knives at US PRICES in US DOLLARS, I think that the money goes a long enough way that it is worth trying. If there's a 10% chance of them taking the knife (I doubt it), and you get a 25% reduction in price vs. in the Netherlands (that's for the boker trance, approx. $48.8 USD (based off $25 shipping from a quick search) vs. $75.64 USD, and the disparity is greater for better knives), then it's better to buy locally, by a factor of 2x, if my math is correct. If the price disparity reaches $50 USD OR the chance of them taking the knife is 5%, then you break even. Any higher a price disparity or lower rate of customs hassle= an Economist rated buy. Also, why not message the guy who started this thread, about importing knives to the Netherlands:

See what he has to say on the matter. Best of luck, and INFORM US WHEN YOU BUY YOUR KNIFE!

I have a good experience. Here's my trick: I always ask if the seller doesn't mind writing something like "metal part, value $7" on the already innocent looking envelope. And sometimes I ask it to be packaged as a gift.
Then it always passes customs :-)

And in this case I think it's worth the small risk with the low dollar and the mcusta-made browning being of an EXCELLENT quality/price ratio, in my opinion better than an entry level boker...

Bump Bump... Kid, please tell me you've got a knife by now! I promise, you'll feel better about having a knife on hand! I sometimes wait to purchase something for FOREVER, and it's agony! Look, buy a knife now, and I promise, I should be going to France next summer, and probably exploring the rest of Europe too- give me a list of orders and some cash to buy the stuff with (a little before I leave), and I'll bring them to you (or we meet at a cafe or something)! I'm dying from the suspense here man!
