$35 or less folder

> I should be going to France next summer, and probably exploring the rest of Europe too

When in France, treat yourself on a classic, beautiful handmade Laguiole folder!

i don't know if you've used a CRKT M16.. but i'll also recommend it and I didn't like it much when I bought it.. it was on sale, (25$) and I bought it just for grins.

Very Nice Knife for an EDC. (I have the M16-13Z, AUS4 steel) It makes me want to buy one in AUS8, about 1.5x the cost of AUS4..

but I don't have any complaint about edge holding, they got the heat treat spot on. I bought two when they were marked down.. and I intend to keep my spare, it's not for sale.

It's a pretty good recommendation when you won't sell your spare. :) I *really* like the ergonomics of the M16 and the range of sizes and blade steels makes them suitable for a Lot of people..

And here, the Spyderco/Byrd Cara Cara all stainless is 20$ on sale, now..

12 euros isn't much to risk.. for an all stainless steel knife with excellent fit and finish.. it's a REAL value and i'm a tightwad..

and I send computer parts to a friend in the Netherlands often.. no customs issues.. as long as it's small and inconspicuous they don't look twice..

now, shipping something BACK from the Netherlands.. . :)

that might be more difficult.. ;)

Still checking out some knives while I wait for my paycheck, but I think we got a winner.
Kershaw Shallot with Sandvik 13C26 steel.

Mitchschrader:
About the CRKT M16, I have read some bad stuff on CRKT on this forum, and especially the M16. Not to happy to buy aus4 steel neither.

The Byrd line from Spyderco seems like the most bang for your buck, I wish I didn't find all of them extremely ugly.

Excellent choice;)

Does anyone here know how 13C26 compares to VG10 steel?
That shallot knife (fun name) could be a nice addition to my collection. For The Kid: consider that the Mcusta-made Browning Ice Storm which I mentioned is a seriously discounted model (the twin model Mcusta Katana sells for close to $90) I still expect that one to be the better choice within your original $35 budget.

I used to have a shallot, but sold it,because I don't like like SS handles & too much recurve on the blade.Otherwise, you made a fine selection;)

Have you considered boker subcom, wharcom, subclaw or hyper?

It would compliment the trance nicely.

I have the money to carry any knife I want ... Even a Strider.

But the subcom beat all my other knives out as my right front watch pocket knife.

Even my PT I used to carry there.

Partly because it's cheaper and less afraid to lose or break it...

But mostly because the great ergos, design and compactness of the knife...

Not to mention I can use it in front of people with out making them nervous.

Also Chad the designer is hands down the nicest person I have ever met online.

Even though AUS 8 isn't my favorite choice of steel, it does the job.

Don't let that scare you. They are very good, very cheap user knives. There customer service was also A+.

Well, I just ordered the Trance, Shallot and a Buck Colleague BU325.
I could get the Buck for €4.50

The Trance and the Shallot look completely different, the Trance has a big blade and looks bulky. The Shallot has a thin blade and looks sleek.
The Buck is a nice small knife for when I wear a suit or something.

Thanks everyone for the help, and feel free to add more knives to the list, I'm sure I'll buy more in the future :D
