$350 and need something nice to buy.

He may have ELMAX next month?!? Oh man, I wish I knew that before I ordered. Jim just finished rounding and polishing the edges on mine and sent me a picture--it looks superb. I can't wait to get it back in my hands.

If he gets ELMAX, I may try to work on him to create a modified Wharncliffe blade to swap out for my 154CM. That shape would add a good 1/3" to the blade length, I think...

DJK

I could get behind a nice defensive wharn.. Maybe Yojimbo style?

yeah I might be in on that ELMAX too. I'd like to see the pic of what Jim did expwmbat if you can.

Here are the two pictures he sent me--you can see that all of the edges on the frame have been rounded and smoothed. I'm looking forward to feeling it in hand, but the great thing is that you can have this done with a custom. There was nothing wrong with it when I got it, but it has been designed for optimal grip with gloves--I didn't need that much grip, and figured it would be more comfortable in hand with smoothed edges.

Hauling--have you received yours? How do you like it?

The Tim Galyean Pro Series Small JYD (without any hesitation whatsoever). I absolutely love mine.

That also looks nice. I don't get why a lot of people posting assume I want a small blade. :P I prefer a large blade whenever I can get one.

ooh thats nice. Understandable why you did it, thanks for posting those. Mine is sitting at the house which I'm not at still and wont be for a couple more weeks probably. Sucks.

Probably because you listed the Small Sebenza in your Original Post.

Also, Galyean makes a large JYD.

A valid point. And if I remember correctly it was like $400, and I really can't go over $350. It's either between a TSF BEAST or 0550 at this point. With the TSF I get a really high quality sturdy custom blade. If I get the 0550, I get a really high quality sturdy production blade, and can buy a fixed blade with the $150 left over. I'm probably going to go TSF since I'm talking to the owner and he's a great guy.

Actually I think I might go with the TSF. I'm watching some reviews and though as you've pointed out they aren't as precise, they are extremely tough and something you could trust in a disaster. I have talked to the maker and he seems a very nice guy, though they only have 154CM at present. I will check out the Gunhammer, but I'm starting to lean towards the brand new TSF as opposed to the used sebenza. It's a little smaller(I prefer large knives) but legal nearly everywhere.

Before you pull the trigger check out the Grayman Dua I mentioned and the El Patron GBF. The DUA is a serious contender also compared to the TSF. Plus he has some limited runs going on the website right now. http://graymanknives.com/dua.html

Check the Exchange section of this site. $350 is not out of line for a used small Sebenza in great shape.

I've heard a lot more F&F issues with TSF. That is why I honestly think a Grayman DUA would better suit you. It's a combination of both. And the El Patron looks great too. With most people the spend around $350-$400 on a knife and always compare it to a Sebenza. How it's close but just does not have the feel of a CRK.

Small sebenza- keeps surviving spring cleaning sessions of my knives. Try to hold one in hand first though; its simplicity is not for everyone.

Unfortunately the only knife seller close to me doesn't have a Sebenza. Knowing him he probably hates them. I talked to the TSF owner and he's a great guy. I also watched some videos on the Grayman and they didn't seem as loving as the TSF videos. However I talked to a guy I know named Tuffthumbs(Believe he is on here) and he said Sebenza was my best bet.

Edit: I'm just going to say exactly what I want so I don't have to keep bothering you guys with posts. :P I want a knife that is classy and strong. A knife that I could wear and doesn't look "tactical" yet is strong and will serve me well. I want a knife I can take apart and put back together just for fun without worrying about the screws stripping. I want a knife smooth enough that any type of assist is pretty much unnecessary. I want a knife I can trust my life to and that will hold up when I need it to.

it seems like if you got anything other than a sebenza you would be disappointed. Thats how I've interpreted your posts. just increase your limit by $50 and get what you want. You're already spending $300 anyway. I too plan on getting a small insingo pretty soon myself.
