This is a worthy adventure! No doubt it will be a great experience and full of insights. I hope you ended up taking a sleeping bag!!
I'll follow along on the website. Any photos you can post along the way would be much appreciated. Stay safe!
There is no shame... you are just being smart. I hope you are able to get out before it hits. Be safe, my friend. The next adventure awaits!
You make the best decisions you can with the information you have......
.....Because I am always challenging myself with new things, I'm bound to fail at some of them.
If it had been a true survival situation, I could have headed down river till I found fish. Not an option for me here, I needed to go up river.
Also, there was a small herd of caribou just over the hill from me for the whole three days. In a true survival situation I could have shot one of them. In my situation I could not legally shoot one.
Mark, thanks for the assessment and evaluation above, I find this kind of real-world "dirt time" experience very informative. There are a lot of 'hobby' survival channels online that provide how-to advice on this technique or that, but there are very few people who do it for real in remote areas and report back on the results. In that sense it doesn't matter if you completed the trip or had to pull out, it's all hands-on experience of a true survival situation and all the unpredictability that entails. Survival is about things going wrong, if things don't go wrong its not survival its just camping.
^ These kind of specific, concrete examples - not theory and general techniques like a lot of youtubers talk about, but what you would have done to survive in a situation that you personally experienced - is the most valuable survival info. Any more of this kind of evaluation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for doing this and glad you got back safely! Hope you get back out there soon.
Quitter.
Bwah ha ha ha.... Just messin, buddy. I followed this, everyday and fully support your decision to call it. You are one of the most level-headed crazy guys I have ever met. Till next time, my friend.
