Hmm, intriguing... mayyyybe we'll get lucky! ;)

Looking at the What's In Production pictures today it appears that you were correct. I see lots of skinny springs that you'd expect to see on whittlers made with the wedge method. :foot:
Still excited, but not quite as excited.

Hmm... well, I'm still looking forward to them; I like the wedge style too, and GEC does an awesome job of it. :D
It's probably way more expensive to do an actual split spring, wouldn't you think?

I am really looking forward to these, have a couple Northfield's secured. That green bone Tiddie looked almost good enough for me to jump on as well. I have an old, tired Schrade Walden 804 that needs a replacement.

So I ordered a #38 whittler. Gabon, green bone, stag...???So I ended up going with the the nuclear option kryptonite. crazy cool, I figure a crazy patinaed blade will look awsome with the bright handle material. I can hardly wait. My anticipation is going all the more for the John Capman knife.

I couldn't wait for the Chapmans, so I ordered a couple of Grinlings!

Who will post the first picture??:D

While we are waiting for Grinling pictures, Here is a progress report on the Farmer's Jack. Lyle has graciously allowed me to collaborate with him on this SFO. We decided to do two versions so we could each have one to call our own.

Sue at GEC just finished my etch. When I do Northfield-level knives, I use my Diamond series branding. It's looking pretty good so far!

I have always brought up traditional jigging during these orders, and have found a kindred spirit in Bill Howard. He loves the old style details for their artistry and practicality, and has hit a home run with his latest jigging.
Here is an example of it, on a #48 pattern (nice knife Frank!!);

It resembles a jigging pattern I have heard called "Rogers Bone" or "Rogers Stag".

It is a more shallow cut, but covers more of the surface. This is what we are going to use on these Farmer's Jacks. I cannot wait!!

Count me in Charlie, I sent you an Email last week.

Best regards

Waiting in anticipation. It looks great.

Here's a stupid question. Why is that pattern called a Farmer's Jack? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought jackknives were two-blade patterns, pivoting from the same end. Slipjoints with two blades on opposite ends that share a single spring are usually pen knives, are they not?

Awesome looking knife here. Between this and the Grinling I am grinning from ear to ear. Just love this pattern!

Christian, if you use Bernie Levine's terminology, it is a serpentine double-end Jack, IMO.
Pen knives are loosely differentiated by size and length. If it is a "weight" of knife that you would use to cut a quill, it's likely a pen knife.
If it's size and weight would carve a hammer handle, it's a Jack knife.
I repeat, it's a loose definition, but generally useful.
YMMV
;)
:D

What are the color options for the bone handles Charlie?

Mark, the GEMs will be Tan like the recent Barlows, which will look different on this jigging, and Cranberry red, like the sample #48 a few posts back.
There is a third, which may be Ebony. If we use Ebony, the Diamond shield will be plain (unstamped) on the wood handles.
Lyle's will be Antique Yellow jig which will again, look different (I gave him first choice;)), and two other colors/materials I don't know about yet!
