3D printed wave mod

Just buy an Emerson it's already on there and it won't come off unless you cut it off. But it is an ingenious idea.

Mine hasn't come off yet , been waving it for five days now .
I'm Really digging the ergos of the thumb ramp , think the width really works . Way More comfortable than a zap strap !

When Emerson makes a waved lockback... but until then...

Unfortanately, I can't see the pictures, but I'm very excited about the possibilties of outfitting my various knives with these. Congrats!

I know I'm semi necro-posting, but I would LOVE for a Cobra Hood like on the Assist with a Wave feature out of metal. Just need the blade tapped and you're in business.

Nice thread bump. I recently wondered a bit of whatever happened to this idea the OP had, since Emerson just got their trademark certified.

Also, related to your Cobra Hood - if you're already drilling the blade, you could also do a wave feature like the P'Kal with a dowel.

I like the Cobra Hood for use with gloves. I think that, with the addition of a wave feature would be a neat addition to delicas, enduras and others.

OP, do you plan on producing these, or is this something you would be willing to let others do? I was actually just designing one for a manix when I opened up the forum and saw this.

Either way, I do think nylon would be an improvement for the longevity of the part. Not sure about resolution though. I'm not sure I would feel safe bracing off something that wasn't an integral part of the knife, so i don't think it needs jimping.

We made one with an SLA for the UKPK and it worked just fine. It was a little loose, but that can be cured in the programming.

Very cool, Sal!
Any particular reason the UKPK was chosen to test it on? Just curious.

Since Spyderco already pays for the trademark licensing for the Wave, is this a product you are interested in bringing to market? Or were you simply testing just to see for yourself what could be done?

Your mention of doing the test on the UKPK instantly had me wondering if anyone out there will eventually print themself a wave style opener like this for a SpyDK, or Pingo, etc., to get around the two-hand opening method. One has to wonder...

THIS is why necro threads are sometimes a wonderful thing.

I really, really hope that, when the Emerson patent expires, these become a standard Spyderco offering. The ability to attach a wave to any Spyderhole knife would be incredible, and I also think the ability to take if OFF when you don't want it would be great as well.

Since Spyderco already has the licensing for their waved Endura/Delica/P'kal, I wonder if it couldn't just be applied to this product?

That's deeper into IP law than I know, but I'm guessing it's model specific. Otherwise I would have expected to see more of their MBC lineup with waves.

Also, if I remember correctly, the Emerson patent expires early 2017 and it may take that long to tweak the product and get it into production.

I didn't realize people were still on this thread , I've not been on BF that much recently.

Hey Sal if you like I can refine the design !

Hey Dave ,
I designed the 3d printable wave mod for the ukpk because that's the only spyderco I have with me . I would like to have made one for the military or something., I think this would be a really popular accessory? Different colours one for each knife .
It felt great as a thumb ramp , maybe I'll get back on this project .
I'll post any updates .
