4.7 Mystery Steel Reveal Day - April 22!

This mystery steel got me excited again. I have not purchased any new S! knives until this one! I was hoping for D2 but seems sweet. There is something about coated carbon steel that is authentic. I am in for this one and I dig that the tip is dropped more than the 5. Thanks Survive! for keeping it real!

Yo! Mr. Needle! I always know where home is. I am stoked on the 4.7 mostly because of the lack of choil, the forward grip, r he more spear point and of course Cruforge. This is going to be great.

I agree with all those points. I'm such a dummy when it comes to steels, but from all the positive reviews I'm pretty excited.

You don't want to leave Cru Forge at 58 or below. According to guys who work with it a lot, that is not a good idea. 59 minimum. I go for 61 and curse the stuff when hand sanding.
My guess on the hardness would right around 58 Rockwell (give or take a point or two either way).

Thanks Chiral for the info, 59-60 HRC is very respectable and no doubt helps with the performance on Cru-Forge V.
Can't wait to see the ones from the 11th ship out and still want to see what one of these looks like with the black canvas handle.

I have one with a black canvas handle.

Thanks for the picture Andy87! Will probably switch out the black screws from my new spec 5.1 once the 4.7 gets here but it looks mighty fine to me!

Screws aren't the same length (specifically the female threaded barrel piece) between the 5.1 and the 4.7. The 4.7 has 2 'short' barrels and 1 'long' one, the 5.1 has 1 each of the 'short', 'medium', and 'long' barrels. On the plus side, you can order fastener sets from S!K directly...

Thanks for the info TR, will have to check them out once they are in stock at the S/K! website.

I really dig that spear point geometry but I am not a hunter and hence why I was a bit hesitant on ordering a 4.7 factory 2nd today when I had chance, but then I snoozed for like 5 minutes and they were all long gone by 4:10 PM PDT :grumpy:

A question for Ellie,

Now that the mystery 4.7 steel is in the GSO lineup, will there be an SK-4.7 of some variety in the future?

Unclear. The SK series is going to be seeing some changes and I'm not sure at this point what models will be offered. More R&D needed.

Ok you twisted my arm I'll do it😀

Honestly I think that their 4.7 with the spear point ought to be a perfect hunting knife and I guess it to be very efficient for the purpose of dressing games, even a big deer (for a moose, now that would probably be a different story) I love the geometry of this knife but I gave up on hunting looong time ago and if I pick it up again, it'll be for birds and not mammals (disclaimer: in a true survival situation, anything goes and everything is fair game, including me :D) To summarize, I think that the 4.7 is a must have for game hunter (and no, I am not getting paid by S!K and I am not a S!K shill)

Right now, I am rather intrigued by their GSO 2.7 and GSO 3.5 as a complement to my upcoming GSO 5.1s. However, I think that the 2.7 may be a tad too small for me, so I am mostly interested in their newer models of the 3.5.

I prefer a much thinner blade for deer but a bet the 4.7 would do wonders on quartering an elk. It will be a long wait for my 4.5 to arrive to give it a test drive
