.410/Rimfire Combo Guns

budhha72,

I saw a bunch of those Springfield O/U pistols at the SHOT Show a few years ago. Don't know whether they hit the dealers.

I had a Scout awhile back and traded it off.It makes a lot of noise just even cocking the hammer back, enough to alert animals you are hunting. It didn't seem like a good hunter to me.Most other single shots/break-opens you can manipulate more quietly in my opinion.

You can a switch-barrel package from New England Firearms. Get a rifle first, then send it in for a shotgun barrel. Probably can't be done with a rimfire, though.

There are also chamber inserts with barrels for shotguns to let them shoot rifle cartridges.

just for the heck of it, checked Auction Arms...there's a 20ga/22mag Savage up...13 days to go...bids at $165 now.http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=9166177

Never had the M6 and the like appeal to me. I have two model 24s...on in 20 and one in .410, old ones, wood-stock DLs. I can see the appeal in the take-apart survival utility, just...well, you know. It speaks to you, or it doesn't.

(edit: just checked GunBroker. There's a .22/20 model 24, again with 13 days left. Current bid is $175. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=130978314 )

Good luck finding what you seek. :)

For people concerned with the loud cocking noise on single shot hammer guns:

For righties, place your right thumb on the hammer and your finger on the trigger. Pull the trigger, hold it, and cock the hammer. While holding full cock with your thumb, let off on the trigger.

Wallah. Works on all my hammer guns.

BUT, I trust my thumb.;)
I don't know your thumb.

Anyone that has a M6 Scout in .22 LR - .410 Shotgun and wants to trade or partial, E-mail me. Been dying to get one for a long time.

That little trick did not work on my M6, Erastmus. It was loud no matter what you did.

Yeah, I would really like to snag a stainless model...I've bugged Springfield a few times but without any luck.

I'll hang on to mine...it's a solid little shooter.

Nice setup, I really like the sling. What make is it? Do you keep other survival items instead of ammo in the storage since its covered up by that sleeve?

That's a Springfield M6. It's the blued/parkerized model (perhaps some sort of oxide finish) and I think he's saying that he'd also like to lay his hands on a stainless version.

Yeah, DWK2 is correct, it's the parkerized version. No other items other than ammo. I picked up the sling from Midway USA...it's just a simple rifle sling with the ammo loops; anything with similar diameter for the .410 (.44 mag/.45 colt, .308, .243, etc.).

I tried a rifle stock pouch like the one on my Marlin Papoose:

You could easily fit a small PSK and additional ammo in this one (made by Eagle Industries); unfortuately, the very thin stock of the Scout doesn't lend itself so well to stock pouches.

I played with one of those at pwyp one year. It was a neat gun

Actually I meant what make is the sling which you answered so thanks. I'll Check out Midway. I have one but its plain jane right now so I'm looking for stuff like that. I don't know which way I'd go with the extra ammo on the stock though. I've seen one where a guy cut a piece from a belt shell holder and glued it on the side so he still had quick access to the on board storage.

It's no big deal really. I was pointed in the right direction at least. I believe I found it, it's made by butler creek in case anyone else was interested.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't remember the make, just where I purchased it:o But you're right, it was Butler Creek...very simple but functional.

I didn't have very good luck with the epoxied shell holder on the side. I was a little ticked, but the cheap butt-cuff (sewed tighter near the grip to stay on) is actually working out pretty good. You can still access the on-board stored ammo and it just boosts my .410 carrying capacity.

Hey Don, if I find a good deal on another one, I'll pick it up and contact you...
