45 acp

I have a circa 1991 stamped W. Germany 220 I'd like to sell..what do you think it's worth?

to get a feel of what the typical going rate is - I'd just check the classifieds over at the Sigforum (as well as looking back at the last 90-180 days of sales), then for another (and generally higher-priced source) check out what they're going for over at GunBroker.

Best of luck.

rbmcmjr - Those are some nice looking guns. thanks for showing them!!! BTW, I love the colt combat commander.

jsrice - That sounds pretty good, thank! I will look into it.

shunsui - that looks pretty nice!

Sagittarius - this is what a friend keeps telling me. Maybe you are both right??? Thanks!

1whobuys - I will think about the Colt, thanks. I see a lot of comments on the large size. I really need to get a chance to go by the shop. And hopefully they have one in. I hope to get a chance this weekend. Thank you!!

Buffalohump - I do not plan to carry it aside from on private property and to and from a gun range/properties. So, that is not very important to me for this one. Just looking for a 100% (if possible ) reliable pistol with a high level of accuracy. Thanks for your input!!

UDDwaine - I set my limit to the price of the MARK 23. I thought that was around 2k? I really think if I stay 1911 I will stay with Colt, but I really need to get some more first hand experience with these pistols being talked about. I have been out of the pistol world for a while now. Thanks for the ideas!!

oldrifleman - Thanks, I really need to read and re-read this thread a few times. So many more options than I was originally thinking of.

moonwilson - this is great to know, thanks!

Steel-Junky - Very helpful, Thank you!!

lunde - You have so many awesome toys!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I'mGatMan! - I understand what you say about Kimber. I really do like the Colts. Thanks for your input! It helps me not want a Kimber a little more. I don't know why, but I never cared for the Kimber's. I do know friends that really LOVE their Kimbers, but I never get tired of looking at a Colt. I am still leaning towards a colt 70 series for the 1911. But, the HK keeps looking at me. I really need to just go to the shop, see what they have, shoot a few, and make up my mind (hoping they have what I am interested in).

Bravado - glock glock bo bop bannana nana fo fop me my mo mop...glo ock, I know, my glock goes pop pop pop. Glock does seem like a great option, thanks!! And thanks for putting up with my late night crazies

modus - thanks for the great advice, I think you are absolutely correct! I am going to do this as soon as possible. 1911 is perfect for me...wait why am I looking away from them again???

DowntownDM - Thanks!

GregB - I will check it out, thanks! A gunsmith I used to talk to a lot had a para ordinance 45 that held about 14 rounds. It was a decent size. Anyone know about these? He never really said much about it aside from it was a nice gun that held 14+1 rounds.

Thanks Again everyone!!

Richstag,

Strabs beautifully covered the HK thing, but I have one point to add. DEMAND THE L.E.M. TRIGGER!

I know of a USP that had 30K rounds put through it with NO parts issues. Recoil spring needed to be replaced at about 29,500 (which is to say that the issue became noticeable, but the gun still ran like a Swiss watch). This was not just a range gun either, and was cleaned maybe monthly I think.

Combat Elite and Combat Commander (both Series 80, unfortunately). Love 'em both dearly. I had a Glock full-size in .45ACP but it had a terrible feel to it (and I LOVE the Glock 9/40 size frame).

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Is kevin Gay?

That would be Tim. Served on a Navy Submarine, born in 1981.

He is the one who got me on to the HK. What a friend huh.

I don't think he understand how forums are, but hey, better of without him then.

Oh, and Tim, sorry but I am not gay.:thumbdn:

Oku - I will do that, thanks!

desmobob - They look great!

thatmguy - Thanks, if my post is out of line towards him, I apologize and will delete it. I was going to respond with much worse but I figured why bother. Don't want to trash up the forums.

A guy at work bought the Combat Elite and he got a good one. Shot better than a Gold Cup for me. Those are real sleepers.

I think I am going to go looking for the USP 45. What is the L.E.M. (Law Enforcement Modification) trigger so I know what I am talking about when I ask for it?

I guess there will be other options availbable?

I think I decided that I am good on 1911's for now and I want to try an HK.

I am going to go by the gun range/shop this weekend.

Thank you!!

Try the HK 45. It is not the USP model.

If I didn't already have my .45 bases covered, I'd snag one of them.

Had a chance to handle 2 this past weekend, a compact, and a full size. Feel good in the hand.

Can't speak to how they shoot, but the friend who has them says like a champ.

Maybe he'll chime in here.

Rich,

The LEM module is essentially a "pre-staged double action" trigger group. The hammer stays forward when carrying, but, you need only overcome the trigger return spring to fire (there is a fair amount of slack to take up, but you really won't notice it after about 100 rounds or so) since the mainspring is already compressed. The trigger reset is just a hair longer than the DA/SA reset on a mod-1 trigger group.

The one I tried breaks cleanly at about 3.5 lbs every time. There will no longer be a safety/de-cocker lever on the gun, so you can get a much higher, and more comfortable grip.

Apparently, the trick to getting the nice light pull is to have the armorer leave the original trigger return spring in place.

H&K does have several other trigger group options, but most of the guns sold in the U.S. have either the Mod-1 or Mod-2. These consist (if memory serves) of a DA/SA trigger with roughly a 14-16 lb DA pull and about a 4 lb SA pull. The differences are in the function of the safety/de-cocking lever. One (not sure which) has both safe and de-cock, the other has de-cock only. After my own chance to try it though, the Law Enforcement Modification is the only way to fly.

thatmguy - thanks, that would be good!

Oku - thanks a lot for the help :thumbup: I will have to figure out what I am getting before I order. The guys at the range are mostly law enforcement officers and gunsmiths, so hopefully they will also be helpful.

Thanks again!!

Kimbers are a trick question. The ones that don't work are to be avoided, and research can help here. Obviously, stay away from the external extractors, but also look at which Series II guns get the more favorable reviews. But on another note, Kimbers that run well often run as well as higher end production or low end customs costing hundreds more. (On that note, remember that the Series I, or 70 Series Kimbers started out as Chip McCormick frame/slide sets, put together by craftsmen working hard to establish the reputation that lasts until today, even after major design failures).

Kimbers that work are about as good as any lower end custom out there. Think of what $1500-1700 will get you in the custom world, and a $1000 working Kimber will be about that good.

Other Kimbers are about as good as what you pay for, given an equally high likelihood of getting a poor Springfield. The exception to the rule, for sure, but Brand-Breaking when it does happen.

If you want Kimber quality or slightly better, without the risk of getting a bum Kimber, Look at RRA. Rock River Arms is establishing a great reputation in the lower end custom/very high end production 1911 market. Kind of like Kimber, when they were first starting out. You'll pay about $400 more for an equally designed RRA, but it'll more than likely be money well spent.

Or, you can consider that anything over $1000 ought to be an heirloom, and go straight to $2000 for a name brand custom. Every time you go to the range for the next 40 years or so you'll never have to wish you'd spent that relatively little bit extra. There's something nice about not having to learn a new gun, ever.

Thanks Again everyone!!

I had a Para Ordinance P14 customised for competition use....it worked great...but it is a heavy pistol fully loaded....very reliable and accurate but it was custom done...and expensive...

Within your budget price I like the CZ 97B posted above in an earlier post...integral rails like the Sig's which help accuracy and a very nice trigger...very clean easy to find slide release and safety....well made and during my time on one it was very reliable....they did very well at the World IPSC championships....check out their web site....

A standard Para Ordinance P14 should be fine though if you think you need high capacity benefits....usually though they are only an advantage in comps....in real time carrying it day in and out it is better to have something your comfortable with....

My favourite here is the sterile Ed Brown that Lundy has.....I would rather own one pistol of that quality than multiple others....

For around $1000, I would go take a hard look at the Dan Wessons. I picked up a Classic Bob-Tail Commander for mid 8s in Feb. It has zero MIM parts, it is a series 70 pistol.

This is my sentiment. Those are very nice especially for the price.

If you are looking for mag capacity why not look at the Springfield XD and get it tuned up. Or wait for the MDm .45 to come out.

I would also be tempted to look at the Tauses OSS.

If you intend to carry the pistol the Bob-Tail or a SIG C3 would be good to look at.

Lunde, do you have a pic of the HK he is looking at? Yours is really nice but a pic of the SOCOM would be more useful for the discussion.

Check out the fnh line of pistols, 15-16 +1 capacity and a hell of alot less expensive than these others. Different back straps for different sized hands. hell you could buy two with money left over to stock up on ammo.

No one's mentioned the .45 Luger Pistol.
Oku---You like H&K, huh. :)

Suffice to say that I'm somewhat familiar with the product. I worked in a gun store for about a year and a half and tended to sell primarily Kimber, HK, Sig, Kahr and Glock products. Of course that was back when Kimber was definitely the swizzle for a production 1911 so it was "several moons" ago.
