.45 cal pirate pistol/folder

That cannon barrel look kinda begs for some filework or engraving on the frame to really hammer the cannon/pirate look. Like a stylistic carriage and wheels/ropes? I dunno. Will this knife/pistol combo come with an eyepatch and tri-corner hat? :D

:D Will, I like that idea. The eyepatch and hat could be included in the shooters kit.:D
I have plans to have the entire gun engraved.

Bruce that is great!

Eagerly awaiting the next installment!
YAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!

You're right.... it IS a splitter.

OK you pervs, back to business here.

Here is the hammer made from .250" precision ground 01 steel. I drew it on manilla folder paper and glued it on the steel. Roughed it out on the band saw and ground it to approx size. There is some filing to do where electric tools cant reach. Its good enough for now. Tomorrow the trigger.

The hammer adds to the shape nicely, the trigger an everything else will be great on this.

Thanks Keith. It needs to lose some weight by trimming and shaping. The trigger should match it. I want to have them engraved before heat treating them. I've never done that on others.

Dang Bruce, that's a whopper! And you make it look so easy and natural. :D Like everyone else I can't wait for future installments. This is going to be great.

I thought my .44 Mag was a hand cannon, but you will have the real thing!

It does look like a ship cannon doesnt it? :D I dont like the recoil of your .44 Mag, I hope this one is a sweet shooter. It will only have 16 grains of BP but I still expect a nice bump.

I had time today to rough out the trigger.
I drew it on manilla folder paper and nailed it on the 4th try. I ran out of time tonight and didnt get it hand filed so it operates fully but it is in the "cocked" position. I hope the image shows the safety catch "half cock" on the hammer. It is a challenge to get these parts right, hopefully the work together and I wont have to make another hammer or trigger. Springs are next.

WOW Bruce, once again, you've captivated me and others with another masterpiece. Thank you for treating all of us with this project.

Sorry if I missed it Bruce, but what did you mill the frame from?

This is too cool for words. I gotta smile; yesterday a tapered a couple tangs and ground a blade and thought I was hot spit - then I come back here and get my feet back on the ground! :D Thanks for sharing this Bruce, it's more inspiring than you know.

That is just cool as can be Bruce -- thanks for sharing!
