Saw this quote from Sal on Spyderco Forums! I’d love one…thoughts?

“For the purposes of adding to the conversation. I've decided to go ahead with the experiment that I wanted to try. It started with a discussion for a Police model with a 5" blade. I believe there is even a thread started on the concept. It's will still be a ways off, like most new designs, but I thought to share.

There are two Police models with 5" full flat blades. Both will be mid lock-backs. Same blade steel and handle materials (Which has not yet been decided). The difference and the experiment will be that one will have a finger choil and the other will have a handle forward system. Other than that difference, (hole location is slightly different), they will be the same. The plan is to run both versions at the same time and study the responses from our ELU's (End Line Users) when being used.”

I sold a 5" Tatanka a long time ago because I thought it was TOO BIG for a folder & because it didn't fit properly in one of my SpyderPacs.

Not a good move from a collector's point of view because the value (or at least the asking price) for Tatankas has since skyrocketed but I don't keep/collect what I don't like.

So, I wouldn't be a collector of a 5" Police or any other model Spydie. 🤷

Interesting in one with Micarta, preferably natural burlap or brown burlap. If it’s got micarta,I might buy one.

I’m in for either or both if the handles are stainless. Police Model = stainless. It’s the law, I believe.

The more I think about, the current P4 lightweight has about a 4.4 inch blade including the choil. Adding another 1/2 inch is sounding interesting to me, I'd probably want the choil version. Then add the possibility the blade shape and handle scales could have changes, possibly a different steel than vg10, now I am getting more interested.
